Ok - to yet further emphasise the point.
It is not the opionions or the advice i am commenting on ( and you will note if you read the thread i have not expressed an opinion or commented on one made? It is entirely the tone, the lack of manners and general consideration of another contributers feelings that needs addressing.
Kaz i am well aware of your story - I read it! I, like many " members" of this forum "read" far more than i write because of the lack of a desire to be pulled to pieces.? How much more contribution would there be if those who wanted to put in their Opinion could do so without fear of personal put-down?
Just one example (there are many) would be the thread started by me warning of the sharp edges on a thxxxes hive metal roof that had cut my hand. One considerate sole went to the trouble of posting a cartoon depicting a coffin with the inscription "common sense" being buried in a grave under a R.I.P headstone. ? Well the sense of humour (read mentality) who thinks that such a response is deserving of such a serious issue (ie could cause serious damage to a young finger) and you are not far away from the posters who find the time to "contribute" posts whose sole purpose is to mock the lack of accurate spelling ability of other posters ??
It is a shame that the cartoon poster could not have spent the time and effort making a more positive (read informative) contribution?
Another example would be personal message i received from one of the most Experienced beeks on this forum following a post i made where i referred to a skook swarm as an "SS". His sole message content was " what the hell is an ss?" . Now maybe i had my sensitive shields down that day but i thought 1) why not ask that in open forum and 2) coild you not phrase that a tad more politely? A small point but a perfect example of the lack of etiquette this chap (i assume he is male - they generally and regretably are) expresses in open forum? The reason why he asked in a pm is only known to him?
My whole point is.…(drum role) … not only is there a tidal wave of newbees out there literally scared to make a post, ask a question or god forbid express an opinion, but there is also a "middle lane" of beekeepers who are put off stepping into the fast lane of informative contribution for fear of being wiped out by the "fire and brimstone" brigade ready to blast any comment or anybody they disagree with?
Finally, it matters not a single jot (in my book?) how knowledgable or factually correct or great a bee-keeper they are. Rude is rude and some on here are bloody inconsiderate to anybody who dares to express an opinion they choose to disagree with.
The watchword should be (only expressing an opinion of course) that you do not post comments written in a style or tone you would not make verbally if the person were standing next to you?? Its very brave but not very clever mouthing off on the end of an anonymous internet connection?
Now thats a Thought for Today? How much politer (not the best grammer i know but i bet someone will find the time inclination and effort to jump on that) not to mention Enjoyable this place would be? Try being Nice?
Thats better. Have a nice day y'all
Regards
Fred
