Surely the bees belong to who's garden they are in?

That's what it says...

Finally, as a subtle point, bees are regarded in law as wild, not domesticated,
animals. Therefore, you 'own' the bees as soon as you own the land they are on,
but you cannot own the hive equipment on the same basis.

Effectively an abandoned hive is exactly the same as a feral colony in a tree. It's not yours, it's on somebody else's property and you can't interfere with it without their permission which you should seek.

I don't think that a bee inspector has any more legal right to examine or interfere either. He might have if he can prove likelihood of some diseases.

If you are worried about disease the answer is to treat your own bees as far as possible, and recognise that bees, especially drones, will drop in from other colonies and may bring disease with them. When that happens there's nothing that you can do except treat the disease.

Steve

How does he prove likely hood of disease without looking in the hive?

, and recognise that bees, especially drones, will drop in from other colonies and may bring disease with them.

Steve

yes it,s that and the thought of robbing if the 2nd hive dies out that is is prompting me to do something.

Is it not possble that there are a lot of bees living in wood etc that you don't know about that are just as much a problem with disease etc? You just can see the ones next door, but they may be healthy, and the ones you don't know are there are the unhealthy ones.

Bee inspectors have the legal right to inspect any hive, with or without the owners permission, and legal rights of entry of any property to do so.

:iagree: you are exactly right but i try not to worry about everything. But i know these are there and i may be able to do something:)

Sad really , maybe the next generation will be born without legs ?
To iterate another thread .
Local landlady in a tiss' because tills went down and none of her young bright staff could do simple arithmetic , leaving her to do all the reckoning up of order costs and change to be given!.
Sad really.

VM

May be the older generation will not judge and make assumptions with out all the facts. just because I can not spell is a little sad because i have dyslexia. It has blighted my life but did not stop me getting a first in my degree. Im sure their are things you are not good at.

Bee Ginner after asking the forum for advice what is your plan of action? Is it inspect yourself or is it Bee Inspector?

But I believe like a court bailife a court / magistrates order / warrant, has to be in place, to gain access?
only the Customs and Excise can go barging in anywhere!
?????

I stencil on every hive my name postcode and telephone number in indellible pen, mainly to try to prevent theft, but also inform any nosey so and so that THE HIVE IS NOT ABANDONED... just because it is sitting in a isolated corner of a field!!:willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

No, i don't believe they do,they have more power than the police in this respect.

That must be the POWERS THAT BEE !

Right! As a clarification - and i certainly would not want to be misunderstood on this very issue.

If you had read what i wrote, rather than what you thought i wrote, you would recognise that a) my comments were attributed not to the content of the argument ( up to that point, a discussion) but to the manner of the posting.

And b) as i did not name names? Oliver90owner? If the cap fits? It would not be the first time you have been challenged both on this forum and others as to the tone of your postings?

As to the "i'm with oliver club" I wonder what level of intelligence you intend to portray with the talk of "welcome to the real world " and the "hard truth club" that attempts to excuse what is essentially appalling manners. If you disagree there are ways of doing so and plenty of sound exponents of the art on here.

You need to understand that there are many lurkers who are afraid to post questions and contribute their own views because they are conscious of being hacked down with spiteful bile?

Real enough? Or do i need to propose a campaign of Respectful posting?

Fred,

Read my post again - it was directed at Silly bee, not you.

Rab has never been anything but polite to me, and as a beginner in my first year, I respect his views and advice. If I did have reason to disagree with him I would do so and wouldn't think twice about it, but I haven't as of yet. I recently had someone help themselves to our hive and the result was our queen was killed. These people have interfered before all in the name of "helping" us. So yes, I do disagree with taking it upon yourself with other peoples property, especially as there is a far more effective option in the bee inspector. An expert eye and legal standing all rolled into one.

Viva la forum !

So many " what if's " so many opinions.......

keeps me coming back... never booring ...

Viva la forum !!

Be nice today? Give it a try?

Ok - to yet further emphasise the point.

It is not the opionions or the advice i am commenting on ( and you will note if you read the thread i have not expressed an opinion or commented on one made? It is entirely the tone, the lack of manners and general consideration of another contributers feelings that needs addressing.

Kaz i am well aware of your story - I read it! I, like many " members" of this forum "read" far more than i write because of the lack of a desire to be pulled to pieces.? How much more contribution would there be if those who wanted to put in their Opinion could do so without fear of personal put-down?

Just one example (there are many) would be the thread started by me warning of the sharp edges on a thxxxes hive metal roof that had cut my hand. One considerate sole went to the trouble of posting a cartoon depicting a coffin with the inscription "common sense" being buried in a grave under a R.I.P headstone. ? Well the sense of humour (read mentality) who thinks that such a response is deserving of such a serious issue (ie could cause serious damage to a young finger) and you are not far away from the posters who find the time to "contribute" posts whose sole purpose is to mock the lack of accurate spelling ability of other posters ??

It is a shame that the cartoon poster could not have spent the time and effort making a more positive (read informative) contribution?

Another example would be personal message i received from one of the most Experienced beeks on this forum following a post i made where i referred to a skook swarm as an "SS". His sole message content was " what the hell is an ss?" . Now maybe i had my sensitive shields down that day but i thought 1) why not ask that in open forum and 2) coild you not phrase that a tad more politely? A small point but a perfect example of the lack of etiquette this chap (i assume he is male - they generally and regretably are) expresses in open forum? The reason why he asked in a pm is only known to him?

My whole point is.…(drum role) … not only is there a tidal wave of newbees out there literally scared to make a post, ask a question or god forbid express an opinion, but there is also a "middle lane" of beekeepers who are put off stepping into the fast lane of informative contribution for fear of being wiped out by the "fire and brimstone" brigade ready to blast any comment or anybody they disagree with?

Finally, it matters not a single jot (in my book?) how knowledgable or factually correct or great a bee-keeper they are. Rude is rude and some on here are bloody inconsiderate to anybody who dares to express an opinion they choose to disagree with.

The watchword should be (only expressing an opinion of course) that you do not post comments written in a style or tone you would not make verbally if the person were standing next to you?? Its very brave but not very clever mouthing off on the end of an anonymous internet connection?

Now thats a Thought for Today? How much politer (not the best grammer i know but i bet someone will find the time inclination and effort to jump on that) not to mention Enjoyable this place would be? Try being Nice?

Thats better. Have a nice day y'all

Regards

Fred

Here, here.

There are comments made on this very forum where lack of basic ettiquette is overlooked because of an indivuduals supposed superior beekeeping knowledge?
