I'm not criticising every conventional beekeeper in the world

No more than I was criticising every natural beekeeper

rolande: I'm not actually sure that 'natural beekeeping' is odd in itself, probably not that much different to what my grandparents were doing with no spare money and rationing during the second world war; I think the problem is that it can be just an easy doctrine for certain odd-balls to hang lazy management on to.

but to suggest that people who decide on a less invasive method of beekeeping do it out of pure laziness is an uninformed posture.

I reckon (personal opinion admittedly) that I'm pretty well informed in a general sense which is why I included such people as Michael Bush, Kirk Webster, Danny Weaver and Wyatt Mangum in my list of suggestions which then caused Finman's hackles to rise and post his own dismissive comment.

If you believe that innovation is in forum members, it is a mistake.

Take country's five biggest beekeepers and go there.

.

That is good advice -in one sense- but probably a little boring as a 'series' of interviews which for the time being (until the op tells me otherwise) I'm going to assume will be aimed at the general public.

I'd like to ask some other people why they have to criticise a question instead of either ignoring or answering it!

Now what kind of a statement is that? - I think you need to sit down and think about what you said and maybe doing a bit of research before coming on here again with (hopefully) a statement with a bit more substance to it :D

Clare Densley - Buckfast Abbey - no particular questions - just a FAB person to talk bees with - but please do not tell her I recommended her - as I think she will shoot me!!!!

Clare is responsible for converting my interest into action as this was where I first handled bees. It was her knowledge and calm approach that gave me the confidence I needed to take the plunge and get my first colony.

OK ... read more into your post than was actually there ... the written word is not always interpreted by the reader as it was intended by the writer. Apology due to you.

No worries, and an apology certainly isn't needed between people sharing a common interest; it's all 'good stuff' that's why we're here.

I know how easy it is for threads to get heated through no more than a slight misinterpretation -been there and done it myself in the past!

I try and avoid the heat ... there's enough hot air sometimes without me adding to it !!

Finman, did you perhaps hear the BBC radio programme "On the Trail of the American Honeybee"?

Quite eye-opening about what "large-scale" beekeeping means.

Both parts are still on the BBC website

Only 3 thousand hives? Pah, they know nothing! That is a little family business, real beekeeping only starts at ... 3 hundred thousand hives?

Surely when the biggest Beeks loose colonies through diseases or Faulty beeking it is Not Noticed anywhere near as much as with a family owned few, where attention to detail can ""sometimes"" be manyfold greater?.

Fancy learning to make beeswax/honey based creams and fancy bits? Clare is running a course in September...I'm in, as is my daughter...sounds like fun and a way to stretch what I can sell besides honey and candles...

Oooops, just realised where you are...a bit far for a day course :( shame.

Yes it is a bit far - unless I can work a holiday around it, which is what we did when we went on the 'taster day'
