Is there any legislation in regards to the transfer of livestock from Ireland into England?

A friend in Ireland is moving abroad and would like me to have their colonies. Are there any loops to jump or paperwork to fill out prior to ferrying them across?

Which part of Ireland aree they in? North or South? If North then the bees are in part of the UK and movement is OK but if they are in the South then Black Comb's link applies.

You are going to need a veterinary certificate for each colony of bees. Best advice is to leave them there and let him sell them locally.

Maybe from the Irish end, but for the UK one coverall certificate will suffice, issued by the appropriate authorities, who should then inform the authorities at the given destination.

extortionate? I beg to differ, some on here sell nuc's for les than a hundred a quid per unit
and others (like me) give away collected swarms 'cos we're over-run with other folks bees.
join a local association, there's usually a route to cheap (free) bees in a lot of associations

Drive them north - never noticed any border control between NI and Eire-jump on ferry, arrive in blighty proper, job done.
Best avoid leaky equipment on crowded ferries.

:hairpull: Crikey ... you could become an accessory to a crime.. and locked up in the Scrubbs!

IMO best not to import any bees from a foreign country... some would go as far as to say a foreign county !

This sort of behaviour needs discouraged in the strongest possible terms! We live on two islands and should not have to deal with a lot of the diseases that mainland Europe deal with if movement of livestock was more closely controlled. Even Galtee's famous amm black queens are not posted outside Eire anymore, even to NI.

Only stating the obvious chaps, calm down.

Imported queens land on our shores by the thousands year on year.

Even that is very expensive Tony..............France is the dearest in the EU countries with decent availability.....and a 5 bar nuc there will cost 75 or 80 euros.

Go to Spain or Italy or any of the SE European sources and about 55 Euros is more normal.....................and then in this country you get them sold for three and four times that.

Read the above, think how hard it is to have 5 bar nucs in April/May in the UK with new queens in them, and see how many suppliers here offer them (an amazing number). Guaranteed local bees too. :angelsad2:
