They may contain local bees (for a while) if later in april, but they don't contain a current years queen, raised and mated in this country, that's pretty much for certain.

Which part of Ireland aree they in? North or South? If North then the bees are in part of the UK and movement is OK but if they are in the South then Black Comb's link applies.

did you find out any easy way of doing it. im irish and have commercial expierence in oz, living in london and want to bring some hives over because of the extortionate prices charged here for nucks.

Surely if you're a member of a local association, you will get offered a nuc for a knock down price?

Last year, I think a full colony (for new beeks) was only about £70 with a nuc considerably less. Well worth your membership if only to get access to bees and insurance. Whatever the amount, it was certainly less than half being charged on the boards.

I agree, Varroa was brought into Ireland by an irresponsible beekeeper who was emigrating from UK.

AND Varroa was brought into England by an irresponsible beekeeper importing and moving bee around a Varroa infested Europe....
Our marinas are now full of Chinese sea squirts brought in by containers travelling the planets seas and discharging ballast water containing all kinds of foreign larvae, which can bring disease and misery to local populations of similar species.
Control could have been put in place, but as our global village is fiscally driven, greedy irresponsible importers wealth creation schemes were far more important.

There was something on I caught a bit of about car transporters going to New Zealand with moths on. They loaded at night and bought over lots of moths which they then have to deal with.
Australia too seems to be very firm on what you can take in.

Crunchy on the outside, squishy in the middle.
They might do well in well drained essex soil, but they'd have no chance in wet west wales. Would this increase the value of my honey ?
