There are tens of guys all over the world who who breed mite resistant bees .
It is not based on "local bees" but on voluntary international co-operatios.

Like Elgon bee breeder Olsson in West Finlad as stocks from Egypt, China, Siberia, Gefys France,

he had told to me that some of strains are impossible to nurse. He was obliged to kill the strain.

It is not only varroa which is important in beekeeping. It is honey yield. What ever you say, it is honey yield.

The Dutch researched Russian bee and German mite resistant Carniolan bee and result was that Carniolan made 100% more honey.

Russian bee killed in some stage all brood in killing the mite that later it become lack of bees, home bees and foragers. Russian bee was not mite tolerant even if sellers told that.

International co operation, insemination tools are they key to get better bees.

Our country is sad place to breed those strains because our summer is maximum short.
But it does not stop propel heads to waste their personal money when saving the world.

.

Well that's' what makes keeping bees so interesting, some are only interested in money, some are only interested in bees, some try to combine the two.

I have to ask, what are "propel heads"?

Absolutely, most definitely not the case for me, and also for a growing number of people both new keeper and old.

A bee that survives treatment free in the prime bee pastures of france may not in a more marginal environment for bees. All beekeeping is local, all beekeepers are loco :)

"marginal" as in over-manipulated, medicated, drones culled, all natural swarming activities thwarted sort of "marginal"?.......:biggrinjester:

Here we go again, perhaps it would be a more considerate approach to leave the nectar to beekeepers who do see the importance of honey.
Honey is a complete gift, natural, nutritious healthy food that benefits the countryside in general the more that is collected, and the more efficiently a beekeeper collects honey, the lower their carbon footprint.

Then why do most of our ferals die annually (mostly)?

Cobblers! - what about the sugar input, the manufactured hives, imported queens etc? - Compare that to someone with a couple of top bar hives that they made from recycled timber in their back garden with no "inputs" whatsoever, who takes a modicum of honey when their bees can spare it... NO carbon footprint at all!

Dying ferals? - not round here, they're doing fine!

How about we leave it to the bees who found, harvested, and stored the nectar. In return they can be best placed to thrive and pollinate.

.
Local bees mate and forage in rain

imported bees forage and mate in sun shining.

Following that argument it would certainly be better for the majority of wildlife, including bees, if we all left these islands free of human interference.

went to Pay nes today not sure if this is a common thing with poly hives but it seems that Apilifevar (SP) can cause thier poly hive to melt a bit.

i was told this as i inquired about a new varroa product and was told the reason they had started selling it was it worked with thier hive, didnt melt it.

interestingly this product is the same recipe as Hivemakers for varroa. Go Hivemaker. not worthy not worthy

You are starting to sound more and more like Eric Cantona every day Finman...

and what is a "propel head"?

Errr, no.

People will starve unless we rapidly learn true sustainability...........

Not really, people don't need to eat honey and there's already over production globally, not that I'm bothered about other peoples attitudes towards their bees.

good lord!

I have heard that over weight is a problem!

I have heard too that price of food is rising and it will be lack of food.
The value of wheat corn in bread is only 4%. What is the rest!

We get nature berry pickers from Thailand. A picker gets 50 c per litre and next day the price of customer is 10 fold.
What happends during night! .......yeah! Lets do not talk about money. At same time our unemployments are in a hurry whe they
look London OLYMPICS from TV and get unemployment compensation.
We get near food when pickers come from other side of globe.

I do believe to the World End Prayers but strange things happens around me.

Even if I have learned sustainable thinking in Helsinki University, I need a True Sustainabilyty Prayer
to teach me what it REALLY IS. Including top bar prayers and don't treat mites prayers.

Good lord.....
I learned in my early life " No money, no honey".
