If any of you were thinking of exporting your honey to China I wouldn't bother. Price is about 90p per kilo!

Beekeepers sell it directly from their mobile apiaries from the road, consisting of some 40/50 hives about 10ft from the retail area. Sadly we didn't stop to get a closer look at the hives or the bees, although they seemed to be a narrower national size with a brood height super above.

Hmmm...let's not get started on stereotypes..

The bees leave their shoes outside the hive (have you ever seen them in shoes?), make a slurping noise when reducing honey 'soup' at night, and fill everything with little tiny grains of rice...

Yep could be Chinese...

Of-course I wouldn't want to mention that they have no eyebrows and all look alike as that would be just plain inappropriate

Surprisingly expensive then for China, wholesale here is only about €2.50 a kilo, that's about UK£2.20 a kilo.

Chris

Wow; that is expensive.

I don't sell honey, but the local food co-op sells local honey for $2.99 a lb. (retail). I think the national average is around $4.50 a lb. In UK terms that is 1.41 a kilo

bees were so placid. hopefully they were near native bees and not imports

Surely if it's $2.99 a lb that makes it $6.58 per kg as there are 2.2lb in a kg?
That's about £4 per kg in UK.

Or am I misunderstanding?

No you are not misunderstanding, that would indeed be $6.58 per kg...

.....if only all the world spoke English and used Metric.;)

but don't our cousins over the pond have very specific preferences re honey (must be lighter than weak lemon squash?). so any "normal" honey will be worth diddly.

My local SPA had own brand runny honey at £1.99 for a 1lb today. When I spoke to the shopkeeper he said honey was honey after all.

over the pond as in the USA?

Here in France honey is cheap because France is a major producer with a huge export market.

Chris

My bad, yeah metric conversion, not my thing really;)

And yet in Hong Kong, which is basically China, you find this:
HK Honey蜜糖(樽盖是蜡烛)HK$240/250g (That's just over 19 pounds)
