Had a very good friend whilst in the RAF in North Africa , known by all as Oggie .
Rigger by trade ,we used to love pointing out a hydraulic leak, just to hear him ask " Were's um leaking to then?" on the deck was always the answer :smilielol5:
Big-wiggin ? you have inside information! not a closet Leyther?

Canadian/USA honey

OK so we have Canadian honey - so presumably they have a national residue inspection program and they can certify that the honey sent to the UK is chemical/antibiotic free? Can they also certify that it is GM free?
I don't think that USA honey is imported into the EU for the above reasons. Has anyone seen any USA honey for sale?
Best regards
Norton.

Has anyone seen any imitation honey for sale in any shops/supermarkets, in the uk?

Once saw some in a Pound shop. lurid Honey on label, small print admitted it was a mixture of honey and corn syrup , No country of origin !

So much for trading standards :puke:

They seem to be kicking up a bit of a fuss at the moment in USA, with imitation honey.....that contains no honey at all,and has a nice picture of a flower, with the words honey...and imitation above it in small writing.

Corn syrup is made from maize and is mostly glucose :)
China is a big exporter of this !
Surprise surprise :D The Americans feed bees on same , there you have it

Dear god, it had never ocurred to me that there was such a thing as imitation honey!

Yes the food scientists have cracked the combination and can produce a substance that can fool the authorities to a certain extent (their machines anyway !!!)

FANCY MAKING ANY ?

John Wilkinson

An interesting article in this month's BBKA News by Jennifer Berry about renewing old comb. She lists a bunch of contaminants found in wax.

A couple of questions

1) does recycled wax get treated to remove contaminants before being re-pressed into foundation?
2) Is the difference between Thornes standard and premium foundation just the "weight"

Hello,
No chemical residues are not removed from beeswax during processing. It is very unnerving that there is no MRL for fluvalinate. It is probably present in all foundation used in Europe. If found in honey at a level higher than 10PPB it could cause a big problem for the honey producer having to recall the product and result in legal action.

Equally frightening are the results of a recent study that showed that even though beeswax is heated with water during the foundation making process it is still possible for ANTIBIOTICS to be present in the wax and to leach out into the honey. You can see a summary of the results at the following link.

If anyone has access to the complete document I would appreciate a PM.

If you are paniking about contaminated beeswax.................

DO NOT DRINK BOTTLED WATER
ITALIAN WINE
THAMES WATER CO WATER (LONDON TAP WATER)
ISRAELI ORANGES
CORNISH POTATOES
GREEK FIGS
CALIFORNIAN GRAPES
OTHER PEOPLE (PARTICULARY IF FROM USA)
SCOFA BREAD
EGGS
MILK
SOUTH WEST WATER FROM CAMELFORD AREA
DERBY CHEESE
YOGHURT (SWISS,GREEK AND GERMAN / DUTCH)
This is just a few examples that came to mind !!
All at some time have been reported to be chemically contaminated and not fit for human consumption

I think there's a point here that's being missed - people gleefully pointing out other "contaminated" products, as if it in some way exonerates honey, is actually pointing out that virtually everything that comes out of that chemicalised green concrete laughingly known as the countryside is similarly poisoned by the products of the agrochemical industry - the very same industry (under the pseudonym of the CPA) to which the BBKA is cuddling up.
Even insisting upon organic produce can only go part of the way in avoiding the poisons - make no mistake, bees are indeed the canaries in our coalmine, and shrugging our shoulders, and accepting a blanket poisoning of the environment as somehow normal or acceptable is a dreadful indictment of mankind's widespread stupidity!

DO NOT DRINK ....
THAMES WATER CO WATER (LONDON TAP WATER)

I thought London tap water has rigourous quality control - it's been passed by at least 8 people before you get to drink it (a ninth time) :reddevil:

Oh I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AGGREE!

I'm with Rachael Carlson on that

Not so sure about James Lovelocks GAIA HYPOTHESIS.............

:mad:And the point of blaming the Beeks for propalgating contaminated wax, honey, propolis, is ??????
