Lal,

I’ve just now read this thread and looked at your photos. It all looks impressive, and I’m curious about how you’ll use the rest of the building.

But back to the warming cabinet: The first lot of supers into the cabinet can’t come out again except by pulling out all the later supers. That would bother me - or do you plan extracting everything at the end of the season in one go?

That's correct. The cabinet can hold 30 supers and there is no way I am extracting anything less than 30 supers :) so it shouldn't pose an issue.

I have plenty of supers (220 at the last count) so they can be stored in the cabinet, until I reach a cabinet full, but the aim will be to complete no more than 2/3 extractions per year, with a minimum of 30 supers.

Rest of the room will be exclusively used for extraction.

I have a 24 frame (6 swing cage extractor), melliflow pro and 90 litre hydro press on order..

Thinking about a heather loosener and will certainly get a creamer next year. That will fill the space up nicely.

Need to add a sink with hozelock connections as dont have running water out there.

Electrician is adding power up to 6kw next week over 3 circuits.

It was actually a blow torch on pine, for the freshly toasted effect! :)

It'll be a real shame to get it covered in honey and propolis - or is that just me? ;)

The bee has got queen excluder for wings.

Honey and propolis will only add to artwork! ;)

To me it sounds like a honey-house to dream about. But the water ... We have a well, and need to get filters and whatnot installed. A bit of a nightmare.
What about you? Are you using mains water? And should the plumbing from source be of foodgrade standard?

Yes, I'm on mains water.

Will be running a hose to the cabin and yes, will look to source a dedicated food grade hose. Everything inside will be copper

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the hydro press. This year should be my first major (ish) foray on to Heather so hopefully need a solution for those 3 supers of honey I get  Pressurised water close to honey does make me nervous....

Hmmm. I had the same thought.

It does seem to be built to a reasonable level of quality (on paper).

I'll have about 30 colonies on the heather this year and I have high hopes

maybe it will pay for a loosener

Just make sure nothing sharp goes in with the pieces of comb you are extracting.....Also the safety pressure release valve is underneath the main stand...I lead a tube off mine just in case...

Any of the commercial guys run an extracting service? I seem to remember a place in Leicester(?) that charged 5 quid a super but dunno if that included heather. Would love to bin extracting off and get more bees

There was a place in Sheffield that was advertised at £7 a super.

I enquired and they said the price was wrong and it was now £12 a super and that was with them keeping the wax! Think it was £15 to take back the extracted combs.

I have come to the realisation (the hard way) that I need my own equipment and there is no getting away from extraction

Honey room is getting there.

Electrics and lights now complete.

Stainless sink and water heater all plumbed in - connected via hozelock. Surprised at how good the water heater is.

Just waiting on delivery of equipment over the next couple of weeks

David Stott of Tomlow bees does, 5 or so years ago basic cost was £5 per super.

Holt Hall Apiary in Tamworth does as well.

£5 a super is an absolute bargain!

Looks fantastic.

Do you need planning permission to build something like that?
Hope not!

The log cabin has been there for a few years and the pitch is under the height required for planning permission requirements.

You are clearly not up to speed with the lean principle of iterative improvement

I think that one might have skimmed the hair line ... you've done a great job of your warming room .,. makes my old fridge look really sad. One day ... on my wish list.
