Light a fire at the base and the tree could smoulder for days even :sorry:

No need to apologise - as long as you use trusty tried and tested methods like tinder and flint or two dry sticks (few of those kicking around, shouldn't be hard to find a pair!).
None of these modern 'toys' like matches, blowlamps or flame throwers!

Yes, I do have one already (from last year) and it is very good -has a long flexible neck and the flame is like a (small) blowtorch not a cigarette lighter.

I bought one of these £3.99 jobbies today ... even got a second can of fuel for £1 as it was the last one and it was in the clearance bin with 30% off !

The flame is hot and more like a blow torch than a cigarette lighter ... the flame is only about an inch long but what is nice is the flexible neck on the device which should allow the flame to get right down into the smoker without burning my fingers. Lights first time with piezo ignition and it even has a child lock so that you can't accidentally light it ...

Not tried it on the smoker yet but looks like it will do the job ... for £3.99 can you go wrong ?

It will do the job - bought a few last year, but be careful - i had to take one back as it was leaking gas all over the place. For the price you can't go wrong and they are good to get in to the fuel and lighting it. I found the piezzo sparks don't always last that long so i end up having to light it with a lighter
or a match!! :willy_nilly:

What sort of beekeepers are you that need these "toys" to light your smokers! Box of matches and some dry fuel is all you really need.

The quality of matches are not what they used to be!
