I might look into them under floor entrances in the future, but not till i have used the open mesh floor that i made last month.

Yes - the instructions advise varox connected for 2.5 minutes (that's for their recommendation of 2g) then switch off and leave for another 2 minutes. entrance(s) closed for the whole of this time and for ten minutes after.
If nothing else - this at least takes some strain off your battery
