Hi All,

Just finished quick job in a hive and collected two new lessons in beekeeping.

Lesson 1. Never continue if your smoker goes out.
They were all over me especially around the face hood, however I was nearly finished and of course I had my suit, wellies and gloves on.

Lesson 2. Always check your face hood for tears before starting any bee work.
Finding three annoyed bees inside my face hood was an experience I would not like to repeat ,it would have given anyone watching a great laugh. A couple of stings to nose and cheek but I’m here to tell the tale.

Do you check your suit?

Do you check your suit?

Yup every time I use it........and annually at some point(s) it won't be done up correctly and bees will enter.
Occupational hazard, usually brought on by careless due to tiredness.
You soon become adept at squashing the internal suit bees...

smoker between knees = massive back strain. A total NO NO. My osteo told me this years ago.

I tried putting a smoker between my knees once but she objected:reddevil:

I puff a bit under the crown board then let it go out I wouldn’t keep bees if they hounded me like that
