Another candidate for the sin bin I think ... could be another new record ... less than 10 posts and a ban ???

Seriously? What , are you the forum sh*t stirrer ?
What rule has been broken ?
No need to reply, questions are rhetorical. Simply crawl back under your keyboard.

Stucat

It is generally agreed that a:-

Prime swarm is headed by a mated laying queen irrespective of the size of the swarm, (it is usually larger than a cast as it generally leaves the hive first)

A Cast Swarm or secondary swarm is headed by a unmated virgin Queen, (it is usually much smaller than a prime swarm).

Mike

No argument from me on that.
I'm completely comfortable with the definitions of prime and cast.
I'm interested that you have added the word "usually" . That's not how its written anywhere I've seen. It is given as an absolute, written as either " the prime swarm is larger" or "the cast swarms are smaller"
Nothing I've ever read suggests that a cast could be larger than the prime or that a prime could be smaller than subsequent cast's.
On, and for those who would like to convince me of something, try credible references and articulate English instead of name calling and BLOCK CAPITALS!
You'll find I'm quite open to persuasion that way.

Well ... I'm not quite sure which stone you crawled out from under but it's a bit uncanny that we get rid of one foul mouth and another one appears in the same thread with the same vocabulary not having posted anything since joining getting on for 12 months ago ... I tend not to believe in amazing coincidences...:ban::ban:

Wow, so you think this guy set up accounts 12 months before getting a ban in preparation ? And you waste your life checking my profile details ?
Clearly, that you need to get a life should go without saying, but if you believe this is true either this jmb or whoever is either an amazingly dedicated and we'll prepared troll, or.......................you're more than a little disturbed for thinking anyone would open preparatory accounts a year in advance, to dodge a potential ban ON A BEEKEEPING FORUM !!!!!!!!!!!
Really, you must keep taking your tablets.
You keep asking if I should be banned, posting your little "ban?" Pictures. Perhaps you should try reading the rules, but If you'd done it sooner your post count would be down a few K.

The forum would be a much better and safer place for new beekeepers if it were a permanent ban this time. He is blatantly an awful person. I feel for anyone that has to deal with him on a daily basis.

JBG - You're not fooling anyone. Your words are incredibly ironic. Pathetic

stucat That Depends, You never know what type of swarm you collect or moves in until the queen starts laying, size has no bearing, a prime from a nuc will be very small compared to a cast from a double brood colony

Absolutely, but you could line up all the swarms from the same hive and say which is the biggest and part of the definition says that the biggest swarm is a prime or the smaller ones are cast.
It's size relative to other swarms from the same hive that is of import.

Utterly incredible, as I watch you slate this jbg guy based on the words I've written .
What a terrible human being he must be to have been banned the same amount of time as some of the loudest, emptiest vessels in this thread.
And since none of this was written by jgb, that make you probably my least fav.type of human, opinionated and ignorant. It's not a death sentence , you can redeem yourself. I'd start with a public apology for all the things you just accused jbg of.

This one has to be my fav. A beautiful statement by someone who's never had a original thought in his lifetime.

Well ... I'm not convinced that either of those texts are sufficient evidence to suggest that a VIRGIN queen will leave with a PRIME swarm ... The first is a paper from New South Wales min of ag so if they are anything like our lot I would not rely on anything much that they say.

and indeed, there is no mention of this being a cast rather than a prime swarm ... so, you are using an omission to prove the point.

So .. as everyone has said earlier ... A prime swarm has a mated queen ... END OF !!

So in the tradition of the highest hypocrisy, you use the ommission to prove the opposite .
Congratulations ! You right off the comments of NSW beekeepers as if they were some amateurs when they have roughly the same land mass as the UK and 4 times as many hives. If this is how you sort relevant/pointless info, its no surprise your so misguided. You are everything you accuse others of, plus of course, you're a class leading hypocrite. Not even typing"END OF" in block CAPITALS can make you right.
So your not convinced ? Please show the credible literature that convinced you otherwise. I came to learn, come on, educate me, or is the dark cosy underside of that keyboard looking more comfy now?

Please don't take my side of anything in those terms.

Normally if bees occupy a bait hive they will stay put.
If you catch and hive a swarm they may well move on.
Ron Brown suggests steady light feeding will keep them drawing wax which can be very useful.

Stucat....I really don't know why you have started posting here in such a deliberately provocative way. I only know that the vast majority of us who follow the forum do so because we are interested in hearing about bees. About how beekeepers look after their colonies, how they process their honey, about the type of hive they use and so on. There are many beekeepers here who freely offer help to those of us who are learning about this fascinating creature. I, for one, am grateful for the time and effort that is seen here daily.
Personally, I find abusive postings pointless, they serve no purpose....other than to irritate.
If you really have some information to impart, then by all means share it but if you have started posting with the intention creating discord and unpleasant argument...then please do think about how it is affecting the people reading your posts.
Although, I don't know you, already I find myself judging you...as others are too. The colour of your posts won't be forgotten and it is a pity that in the future it will be difficult to take you seriously.
Debating a subject is fine...after all, we all have opinions and experiences.
Perhaps this forum is the wrong one for you and you might be better suited to a debating society, where your argumentive style might be appreciated.

Good one Trem. This chap has no future here. Hive maker will give him the chop shortly. What an ass, life's too short. There must be something wrong with him.

:iagree: nicely put.

That's fine just keep ignoring half the definition, shouting at people and calling them idiots.
One day you may actually be right but given your attitude, I highly doubt anyone will be listening.

Regarding most uses of the word Swarm, it normally means First.
Prime Mover.
Prime Authority.
Prime Motive.

Whatever you feelings towards Mr Cameron may be, somehow Cast Minister Doesnt seen right.

It seems that 99.9% of beekeepers understand that a first swarm to issue forth from a hive is, and always has been, called the Prime Swarm.
However..we now have for some reason, people who want to argue about the above fact......and their argument is based on what?

Taking a painful sting on the elbow yesterday was more pleasurable than reading this thread. Can't believe some of the postings and what does it matter? A swarm is a swarm once it leaves the hive, containing either a mated queen or unmated queens. Same result, you've lost bees and somebody else may gain.

And simply explained. Start at my first post offering advice on the topic requested and then continue to the point where after being called stupid several time accused of impersonating myself endlessly. Judged by people who in their own words don't have any info. to form a judgement on(and hence should know better), I started to retaliate in the provocative manner I was being addressed. Where is your criticism of those who resorted to abuse, name calling, shouting etc.?

The sole truth on the topic.
It was the attitude of poster(not just the one that got banned) that I took umbrage with in the first place.

You simply can't understand how ridiculous some of you have made yourself seem.
Shouting "the big I am" of how you are the last word on everything and behaving all the while like a 5 year old. It's been most enlightening, a little disappointing, but not really surprising.
