Well thats interesting, Alderney is much further north than Jersey, my original home!! so, what does this confirm, well unless this blighter hitched a lift on the regular ferries from St Malo, to Jersey and Guernsey, it flew and the distance is much less to get across the coast from Calais to Dover and folkestone area. Wont say i told you so, but.....
The other worrying thing was it was spotted by a well informed person, others might not have a clue!! Leaf fall this coming October could be very revealing!!

Thanks for that GJ, even though it's bad news for any beekeepers on Alderney.

Is it likely, do you think, that the insect could have been blown over from the Cherbourg peninsular or would it have had to hitch a lift on a boat?

That's not good news - I'm in the front line down here on the Costa del Fareham and we have all been well briefed on the likely arrival of this pest so it won't be a massive surprise when it finally arrives but .... just one more threat to our bees that they could well do without !

Having just read the NNSS risk assessment it seems entirely likely that we will be seeing them next spring. It will only take a coule of queens to arrive and boom, they're off!

Let's hope they do as well as the Germans in 44-5.

Inevitable I suppose with climate change. What do we import from the Channel Islands, (apart from Potatoes, Cream and DVDs)?

Jersey cows.

Carnations and tomatoes ... but there's not a lot of direct traffic from Alderney to the British mainland - most of it goes via Jersey and Guernsey so they must be worried ...

Plus this lot.

Yes direct from Alderney but boats from Channel
Islands arrive every day in Portsmouth

Has anyone heard any more about this? It just seems to have all gone very quiet.

And hordes of WAFIs every day of the week but especially weekends at this time of the year and there's no control whatsoever on them
