i know its an old post, but i thought i´d reply. In march of 2013 i bought 4 hives complete with bees and laying queen. every time i visited my hives to inspect them the bees went crazy trying to kill me. i would have hundreds of stingers left in my gloves and they even tried to chew their way in to my viel. (was a homemade bee suit and they actually found a way in and stung my face a few times). it became an unpleasant and daunting experience, they would follow me home (50 mtrs away) and hang around the window where i was hiding on the other side). killer bees i thought, haha. but after frequent visits they seemed to be calmer and was used to me visiting. i´m guessing the previous owner never really visited them much as the hives were all stuck together with propolis, and had clearly not been inspected on a regular basis. now they are ok, rarely do they try to sting me anymore, and i dont get any stingers left in my gloves anymore, not one. but then, i have changed my gloves from long armed suede, to proper rubber bee gloves. now it is a pleasant experience.
