All good stuff - I believea certain breeder in my area has acquired a few queens from there this year to play wih - but after visitng the islands quite a few times over my career the human population could do with a few fresh imported genes though :biggrinjester:

If you cross an Italian with the native stock you could recreate an original Buckfast.....

Was there ever any chance of anyone attempting to take different bees there?
 
There are 250 species of bee in the UK consisting of 24 species of bumblebees, 225 specifies solitary bees, but just one honeybee species, the native Black Bee (Apis mellifera mellifera).

They mean one species of ENDEMIC BEE...

Not imported foreign bees or some ungodly hybridised frankenbee that seems to be popular in some parts.. they COST THE EARTH !
