Anybody know what they get in weight per frame? Average.

I ask because I have just got approx 1kg from 2 frames which were not full and although are brood frame depth are only 11" long.
This was extracted with an uncapping fork and gravity. Do I feel good about this or should I expect to see "Needs to try harder"?

As far as I recall, a BS super frame yields about 5 lb /2 ish KG. Honeycomb is designed to keep honey in- to extrace by gravity you need to scrape it off back to the foundation with a spoon and put the resulting mess (sorry, harvest) in a sieve over a bowl, leave for 24 hours.

shouldn't that be 2.5lb???? or are you spacing them at 4-5 per super?

resulting mess (sorry, harvest)

"Mess" is the most accurate description one can give.

What is the area of a national super?

During my last extraction I weighed each frame in order to balance the extractor. (First time I did this, highly reccommended, it's easy and the extractor liked it a lot!)

On an 11 frame nat super I was getting 1.8 to 3.7 lbs per frame gross weight. It yeilded 20 lbs Honey. (I did not extract 3 of the frames)

On a 10 frame nat super I got between 3 and 4.5 lb per frame gross. I spun them all and got 25lbs honey. there was a fair bit of set honey still in the frames.

I think the absolute max you can get from a nat super is 30 lbs.

Just to see the honey quality, I took off one fully sealed national super frame.

I used the crush and strain method for such a small amount.

It yielded two and a half pounds of honey and two and a half ounces of wax.

I give the unwanted remains of the mess back to them.

I have had a nibble on some the good bits of capping but...... well, each to thier own I suppse.

Will depend entirely on what frame spacing is used and the frame type.

Assuming filled to 1.25 inch (a bit wider than the top bar)

Super 3lb
Brood 5.25 lb
14x12 8lb

But if you look at the total volume in two sides of a super filled to 1.25 inch total comb thickness

33.5cm x 11.6cm x 3.2cm x 2 then its 2.5 litres, which if 100% honey would weigh 3.5kg or 7.75lb

weight of honey per frame

We have extracted this week and we put in buckets 216 lbs taken of eight supers
with nine frames per super which is 2.5 lb per frame. Each hive we use the shook swarm method so they all get 10 new frames and foudation so what we have taken in honey is not to bad
