And from the Home Office

In an assessment that will lead to a backlash from Tory and Reform politicians, the report also says that “claims of ‘two-tier’ policing” are a “Right-wing extremist narrative” and that grooming gangs are an “alleged” problem “frequently exploit[ed]” by the far-Right.

1984 should be required reading at school.

I deleted this and posted elsewhere but it’s relevant here
Orwell was wrong about the date but not much else.
Neither main party offer much hope to the people and the only credible alternative have an unfortunate habit of chucking their teddies out of the pram as elections loom. Many countries would have seen a few John Wilkes Booths stepping forward but it's not in peacetime Britain's psyche.

We've had the Grand Brighton hotel bombing and mortars fired at 10 Downing Street.

Today the evidence to support the third reading of the assisted dying bill is happening, they hasve stacked the numbers of those giving evidence with supporters and denied access from those charities who oppose this bill. The main thrust of this bill originates from very wealthy funders who have long term agandas of supporting euthanasia that extends way beyond those people you may wish to believe should have this right. Even the poor are now on the list in Canada and Holland much worse, if we follow suit we are talking of numbers around 60,000 per annum within 5 years.
I heard a Canadian talk about this and it sounds absolutely horrific, basically assisted drowning.

A key concern around the assisted dying bill is that it appears to discriminate against people who are not terminally ill, and that a legal challenge could be brought under the ECHR which could ultimately lead to it being widened, raising fears of a “slippery slope”.

Barrister Alex Ruck Keene KC told the MPs, “there’s no way to prevent challenges under the ECHR,” but legal experts disagreed over whether such a claim would succeed.
Government approved terminal water boarding….
Still, it’ll get rid of the useless eaters and save fortunes on pension payouts.
Got to close the inherited “black hole” somehow and build back better for our uninvited guests.
Just to state that I'm a strong supporter of assisted dying and always have been.

Ethics of killing in cold blood aside, taking out a leader would be as ineffective as taking out Putin. There is a whole machinery of individuals. Lernaean hydra.

I do wonder whether we will see a British Revolution this century.

Please correct your mistake. I have not made all of that comment. Mine was polite and highlighting the technique used. I have not stated whether I'm for or against.
:iagree: I didn't see that pinch of xenophobic bigotry at the end of your post

Apologies++ Anduril. I don't know how your single sentence got conflated with a sentence from a different post = the dangers of a techno-dumbo like me posting🙇‍♂️.

That is indeed true
Nowadays there's very enhanced security for buildings where meetings of political leaders gather. At one point, after the Brighton bombing, I had to attend a boiler breakdown in the Harrogate hotel during a Tory conference. Admission to the site required thorough searches both in (and under) the van. Every trapdoor, manhole lid and closed space bore signs of post search seals. I suppose a clever terrorist might have created duplicate seals but it would have been tricky. The IRA were a lot more resourceful than disgruntled ordinary members of the public.

The way this lot are acting they will need to do a great deal more than that. It has always surprised me that we have not seen more random attacks of prominent figures, we must be a very tolerant lot.

1984 was supposed to be a warning , not a template.
If you vote for a dog eat dog society don't complain when you get bitten on the ass and covered in fleas !

Our problem is that the recent election has clearly demonstrated we have no diversity in the political field, they are all pretty much either bought and paid for or brainwashed beyond redemptiion. I am no Labour man by a million miles, but, If john Smith had not died we would not be were we are today, we would, imo, be in a better place.

Does such an action always result in lasting beneficial change? Charles I was executed, and although I'm no monarchist, the Commonwealth may not have been quite the sunny uplands as the monarchy was restored in 1660. It took until the time of K George 6th and then Q Elizabeth 2 to get a decent monarch. The French revolted and have been a republic since 1792 - but they shuffled and a currently on their fifth version - and their heads of state have been pretty duff.
The parallel is governments. In this country they seems to be "all in it together". Despite their playground antics they don't really improve things: the blues are squealing that the reds have stolen their plans to expand Heathrow, for example. Doesn't matter whether Joe Public wants their wheezes or not. Would physically attacking them have a beneficial consequence?
Same applies to oligarchs and big business. Interesting that there's no competition in the water industry, and Ofwat is hardly a champion for the consumer.
Tolerant? Their stock is so low, but they've rigged the system with FPTP. Maybe decent citizens recognise that Acton's "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" means we simply mind our own business and focus on things we can enjoy.

"grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
My name is ROSS and I am a political alcoholic !

I broadly agree Macbear, but I worry how much of this approach is sincere or just allows me to abrogate personal responsibility for this sorry state of affairs.

If our leaders feared us we would have had considerably different outcomes in many areas to that which we currently endure. When I say fear I mean of being removed from power if not doing the will of the majority on all major issues. The system does not allow the separation and voting on issues most important in people's lives. Our current gov has taken this parlors state to a new lower level by totally reneging on their manifesto and public statements in order to be elected.Lying your way to power is clearly described in the communist and Fabian handbooks, we have a gov formed from both.

because, as now our 'parliament' was still pro establishment/monarchy, the MPs were still much the same mix of nobility and wealthy landowners who needed a 'king', the serfdom much the same so they quickly brought someone in to grovel, bow and scrape to ' much the same as now
K George 6th and then Q Elizabeth 2 to get a decent monarch
That's a matter of debate - the current lot, same as Betty before are just a cabal of freeloading, gaslighting parasites, and have been since they imported the first George from Germany - just because they hated catholics.
Even if you look at the 'united' states of America - much the same, immediately on Britain giving the place up as a bad idea (it was more important to protect the Windies), there was a massive debate in the land of the (not so for some)free as to whether they should 'elect' their own king. and even the system they have had since is no better than monarchy with most recumbents acting like despots, being above the law and pardoning themselves and their sychophants whenever they do wrong.
