This new location site close to Lymington where hornet was reported after the sighting at the
Alresford site last year

We are doomed Mr Mannering...doomed I tell you (in Scottish accent).

Like I said .. hounded.

FYI

Dexter’s shed left forum due to being hounded by Karol via pm’s. His sin was making his own ‘High efficiency traps’. Now why would do that

Member of public killed it, local SBI collected it and sent it to DEFRA lab in York. Its quite large compared with other UK hornets to date.
Lets hope the DNA check shows its unrelated to other UK incursions.
Trapping ongoing in local vicinity.

I know from personal experience - last year with AH found in Liskeard - how efficient the NBU teams of SBIs have become. If there are more hornets to be found in the area, they will find them. My only complaint about the Liskeard episode was that it seemed to take an age for DEFRA to issue press statements, by which time the local rumour mill was at full speed. We'll see if there's any improvement this year.

He probably got fed up of the hounding and accusations that he was making commercial gains from his posts on the forum .. totally unjustified and the people who were doing it should have been banned. So much knowledge and good advice from Karol now, seemingly, lost as a result of a few a...holes on here. Hopefully he can be enticed to return to posting at some point.

Another forum loss to add to my list ..

Absolutely agree, he is a wealth of knowledge. I honestly can't believe he has hounded anyone except to give advice as to how a homemade trap would work better. He has spend many an hour of his time FOC to assist with experiments and I am controlling my Asian hornets now as a result. He is far too busy with his other ventures than making a few quid on wasp traps on here.

That’s great news
Hope you’re keeping on top of them

Nothing out to the wider clubs in Hampshire

I don't know if New Forest BKA have had an update

Believe what you want but I know it true because I spoke to him.

Always amazes me when people are told something that does not agree with a preconceived view - posh name I think is cognitive dissonance. Just say I don’t believe such and such so l don’t have to admit They were misled/wrong.
Brexit is a classic example - I voted leave and knew it meant leaving with no deal. Ya right trott on.
Let not get into that though - just used as an example to highlight the point.

Anyway believe what you want - waste your money if you want. Makes no odds me.

Knowledge is king and I got it from the horses mouth. No help offered but threatened to go to court - pretty aggressive I would say.

Still you believe what you want but remember it make no odd to me whereas Karol has a commercial interest in selling high priced traps. Is he doing that for the greater good of human health - sorry but from my view I am not buying that one.

That’s it from me if you think I am a fibber fine that’s your choice.

PS

Oh just one more point. Isn’t it ironic that the person complaining bitterly about those leaving that forum due to inappropriate behaviour is actually defending somebody who does the same but ensures they are sly about it. Well gave me a chuckle anyway.

No you are not a fibber, he did threaten court action against another member who subsequently left the forum because of this.
I've tried to to explain that his premises of wasp feeding behaviour that his expensive traps are based on is totally erroneous.... but to little avail,. In fact I was banned for trying to do so. He defends his false ideas to the nth degree....even reckons a wasps nest the size of a small football will take in 3 tons of insect biomass per year whilst also claiming a nest density of around 100 per acre. Even the Tardis would struggle with that level of horseship.
I know what my opinion of him is; others, it seems, think his sh£t don't smell.

Have a read of this....https://www.pestmagazine.co.uk/media/245477/22-25-wasps.pdf
They even offered to fund his work......a snake oil salesman.

I think you'll find that there was a bit more to it than that ... A patented device, patented at some expense by Karol, referred to on line in the same place as DS was offering designs for exactly the same thing but from reclaimed materials. I think all Karol was doing was protecting his intellectual property. Whether that is why Steve left the forum I can't say, it's a long time ago now. Funny that you should remember it.

Not being very magnanimous in his expressed heartfelt desire to help his fellow people without any profit........., snake oil salesman.
Come on Philip, time to admit you were "had" as most of the forum was by his big words in sentences that made no sense.... we now have have Billox, did we have a Karox?

We still have to suffer BEEFOX

Did he ever reply as to why he felt the need to patent the device? They're certainly expensive.
Had great fun last year running a range of experiments involving 'high' and 'low' efficiency traps including inducing swarm feeding behaviour. New found respect for the picnic botherers.

I don't think so .. if you follow Karol's advice about siting wasp traps that don't allow captured wasps to escape and when and where in the scheme of things to site them you will find his advice is good.

I can see the argument that was raging about how much a wasps nest consumes during the season but regardless of how much they eat .. when they start attacking bee hives they are a pest.

I never found anywhere that Karol was saying that his waspbane device was the only solution to a wasp problem and i certainly never saw any indication that he was here for commercial gain.

The one thing that made sense to me from Karol was that the traditional wasp trap (which used to be recommended by the BBKA - may still be, I don't go there) was nothing more than an attractant and the number of wasps that escape from these actually cause more wasps to come. Siting traditional traps in the middle of the apiary as previously recommended is a recipe for wasp attack.

I really think you have got it wrong about Karol - he's one of the good guys.

Why wouldn't you patent a novel invention ? A patent protects your commercial rights in the event that someone else tries to replicate or otherwise gain from your invention.

Doesn't really warrant an explanation .. why did the inventors of the Flow Hive wait until they had their patent before marketing it ? That's also expensive, but imagine if they had spent all that money on tooling and without a patent someone else could have set about manufacture, undercut the price and made a killing.

I'm not saying that patents are not infringed all the time - the Chinese seem to completely ignore the rights of patent holders .. but within the Western world, subject to the countries where they have patents lodged, they are enforceable in law and you could sue for substantial damages if they are infringed. Witness the tightening up on ebay on counterfeit goods - it's not just the manufacturer in the firing line .. the rest of the sales chain are also guilty of patent/copyright infingements. The law on intellectual property is pretty robust.

One who is trying to make a profit off gullible beekeepers.
You should look at the other "devices" he has patented....
Open eyes yours a bit will it...to quote in "billox".
