Is it just me that found this quite uncomfortable viewing?

I am a newbie but for me there just seemed so many things not right about the whole thing. Like adding a super when there are only a few frames and none are totally drawn?

Would it not have made more sense to move the few remaining bees and new queen into a nuc?

Please tell me if I am wrong but surely downsizing would have been a better option?

All that smoke for about 4 bees?! :'(

Is that thing next to the hive for water? I wonder if they'd use it that close to the hive. A friend made her bees a lovely marble water feeder, which they ignored in favour of a muddy puddle lol

Also, he ought to be checking his QE before banging and shaking bees off it and if I took the roof off a hive and found wasps I'd be concerned.

Maybe its his first year. I'm sure we all did daft stuff when we first started. Its just I was lucky enough to have the forum to mentor me ;)

Edit - it just gets worse!

personally a clear indication of what I would not do.

forgot to ask did anyone see him check for a queen before placing the new one in ? had the queen died

sorry to painful to fully watch !

Well he sort of did.

But then lobbing them on the top of the frames would probably have done her in anyway. It resembled a part drawn super, didn't have any of the makings of a brood box.

So he was right on that they were q-

Think thats about the only thing he did do right....

:iagree:
Dont think i saw any kind of brood area on any of the frames. Majority of bees clustered in frames 1 and 2.
Hope he did get a new queen in there, rapido!!!
Think he has forgot (or didn't know) the the second your hive becomes queen less the numbers start falling. I think that colony would really struggle by about second and third week after queen has began laying, up to the time replacements start to come on line.
Huge cold areas with no sign of partitions either. Lots he could have done better!!
But I've said it before, its very easy to be ultra critical, over a decent cup of tea and nice biscuits. He's obviously keen which is good!! I hope he gets a mentor soon too!!

Picking bits off the comb and chucking them in the grass is asking for trouble too. I hope someone experienced offers to guide him. There didn't seem to be enough bees left to save the colony, to my inexperienced eye anyway. And certainly not enough to defend against wasps, if they've already found it. If they haven't,he's going the right way about attracting them.

.
The guy needs help in his start of beekeeping. Not beating.
.

I think he knew he had made mistakes and he is states at the end that he's happy to be guided. Hope someone nearby can give him some pointers.

would have been much better to pull the best combs ( ish ) and pop them in a nuc box with new queen. try and consolidate the cluster to increase warmth
still at the time of year they were at best outcome would be a small nuc going into winter

what an absolute tool - proof positive that people should not be allowed to buy a video camera without a doctor's certificate!
'I don't know why they havent made a queen cell' - would having no queen to lay eggs be a clue?
And the lovely honey they had collected - anyone notice the pristine white cappings? fondant.

So, we have a frame feeder full of syrup, fondant on top and two jam jar feeders full of syrup - then he puts a super full of foundation on top!! ntwithstanding the fact they've only drawn a total of three frames in the brood box!!

This man should not be allowed out without qualified supervision :D

I can't bring myself to watch it after all the comments. If he posted it recently somebody tell him what to do?

As always you say what I am too 'nice' but also don't feel qualified to say! not worthy

It was posted in August last year. Which I suppose is worrying in itself, even with the crappy summer we had last year surely they must have been in that state for a fairly long time?

This isn't the worst thing I've heard, one of our local club members said he saw a guy post on Facebook that he saw a swarm, was able to actually identify the queen and then the moron crushed her intentionally, and he had the even more dumb and arrogant idea to post it on Facebook.
