Wow. How pretty.
I finally got the refurbished ( by Stan) WBC onto the drive this morning. Now I have to sneak a brood box inside before spring

Finished making a commercial broodbox from scratch for the teaching apiary.

Very pretty ... they do look lovely .. I had one for about a year intending on doing something with it but never got round to it .. it's now doing service as a bee information post at the local model farm.

Clever and useful

Now a copper roof might be nice :)

There is a guy who refurbishes WBCs and sells them at the Sussex bee auction. They are immaculate with beautiful paintwork and copper roofs. Last year he sold the best ones for over £350, this year they went for less than £200!
He must have been heartbroken considering the work that went into them.

We still run around a dozen WBC hives in a handful of Tamar Valley sites, where the landowners like to see them in their orchards.
Our preference is for standard Nationals with flat roofs, but although a fifth of the time to inspect are no where near as pretty!

Need to restore some more as one of the "Take Granny out to Tea" restaurant tearooms has asked me to put WBC "propper beehives" in sight of the "covers"..... may even put bees in them!!!

Why can't you make pretty lifts to go round the nationals? Solves the problem then

Added a treadmill motor to the second hand Giordan extractor we bought, took most of the day to weld the brackets & build the power system properly, all nicely earthed and so much quieter than the noisy drill that came with it :)

£7 for motor control unit, £6 for enclosure, £22 for new belt & pullys (changed ratio a bit) and £1 for the treadmill so £36 all in.

Looks good, the dozer. Is it a 240 volt motor, or how did you rectify/drop the current?

Its a 120v DC motor from a running machine, i was going to use the motor controller, choke and switches from the running machine to control it, but there was some burnt out capacitors and after doing some reading, they are not a reliable unit so just used the choke and then bought a cheap DC motor controller from ebay like this = Motor Controller or this another controller
you can find them for around £7-10 and they work OK.
or you can buy a complete kit = Kit
I have kept the Switch and trip out of the running machine in the wiring for safety, as using high voltage DC is more dangerous than AC, as you stick to DC.
But as long as your not stupid its ok, just make sure the motor is earthed onto the frame and the mains.

Rebuilt my home bodged incubator with new 240V fan and STC-1000. Temoerature holds at +/- 0.5C on standard settings.. a great improvment on the old controller +/- 1.5C

Made some new UHE Floors with a redesign to incorporate a little alighting board, I didn't fit the mesh so the pics will be more clear.
In the overhead shot you can see the small area for the mesh and a reduced area below adds some wind protection and acts as a ledge for the varroa board.
From the rear, there is an opening roughly one inch.
20mm x 10mm rim as my hives are TBS.

Nice job Steve ... do you paint them before putting them to use ?

Lovely. I use nail gun/staples on mine...screws look better though. I also have a smaller area for mesh. Yours look very smart.

I made 12 brood boxes today & a few supers.
