Repainted the handle of my hive tool, having left it behind a couple of times. At first, in stroke of genius, I painted it fluorescent yellow, so I wouldn't miss it. Then I remembered why I had that paint in the first place (to differentiate between hives in a way that bees can recognise), and re-painted it red. The last thing I need is to reach for my hive tool, only to find it covered with bees.

I think painting it red is a good way to attract the bees' attention. My old bee suit had a small red label on it and the bees used to attack it. The label soon came off ...

I make two hive stands, well more super stands that hold three side by side, I need these as I keep my supers outside with a sealed OMF and a roof when they are not in use. I was lucky to have the wood given to me.

Finished making up the 10 nucs for queen rearing in the teaching apiary. 5 with open mesh floors and circular entrances, 5 with solid floors and slot entrances.

Picked up 8 cu ft of cedar today, all stacked to dry out....... bloody heavy!

I had some wood given to me do I made two hive stands to hold empty supers, three abreast and an under floor entrance floor, lots of different plans around picked one then realised it needed changing slightly. All done and ready to be tested.

cut up the wood to make another 25 floors. A life time of glue'ing and screwing over the evenings ready for the start of the season. And, cut up batons into shims to modify the Thorne 24 £4 cover boards I bought in the sale to covert into Demeree boards.

Also, placed my poly order from M's sale

Made base and lid for a solar wax extractor based on a sealed double glazing unit I acquired. Will mount on an adapted barbecue stand (dead barbecue with
with wheels)
Do I need to use any special sealant to fix the double glazing unit in ie will silicone stand the heat?

Silicon will probably do, they rarely get much above boiling point.
But if not sure they can take a lot of exporues to those temps might be wise to use that heat tolerant sealant used on boilers/fireplaces etc. Although 1250 C resistance is a bit overkill :D

My solar melter has melted all the insulation around it...

Tunnel Entrance Floors

With some inspiration found online and also on this forum, I created a drawing of a tunnel entrance floor and had it made up (the benefits of having family members with a workshop and makes furniture for a living). I do like DIY but I didn't have the time and I won't have been able to get them looking as good as this.

Looking forward to painting them, adding in the mesh and replacing the Abelo floors with them. 460mmx460mm square so just reducing that footprint a little. They still have enough of a landing board too :)

I'll see if the Abelo poly trays will work nice, or else I'll just have to get some Correx or something.
