After many days with nothing emerging, today's sunshine and warmth has brought out all my girls. One hive with pollen from snowdrops or possibly gorse as that is in full bloom. Lost two colonies this winter - one my fault as should have united (unwell at the time) and another I cannot explain.Hooray!!!!!!!

Yesterday at the apiary was pleasant but turned colder. I said to someone it could be better and they said just smile it could be worse. So I smiled and it is worse - blowing a gale and raining - glorious Somerset.
My youngest (mid 40s) daughter is the fittest amongst our adult family and she's thoroughly versed in practical work. We arrived back from shopping yesterday to be met with the question "have you the workshop key handy? I need a saw, drill, screwdriver and some screws". She had found a sound good condition shed door from a demolished building and wanted to replace the rickety personnel door to the stables. It had been there since the 1980s and had had a hard life. Off she went with my cordless tools then returned to get my crowbar and cordless grinder as a few nails were proving difficult. Couple of hours later we had a securely fixed, cut to size, properly mounted with 3 galvanized Tee hinges, power sanded and sprayed with fencelife wooden door. I'm redundant it seems.busily fixing a shed door (nowadays a half hour job lasts a whole shift) seeded up another load of honey with award winning soft set honey and put more honey in the warming cabinet as there seems to be a bit of a run on.
Our daughter is the DIY'er in her marriage, not so long ago I was intructing her over the telephone how to replace the heating element in her electric fan oven whilst her husband made the tea ... I live in hope that in my dotage the skills I have passed on will come to some use when I can no longer do the DIY myself. You should be grateful ...My youngest (mid 40s) daughter is the fittest amongst our adult family and she's thoroughly versed in practical work. Yep ... arrived here on the Costa del Fareham about 5.00pm and now it's blowing a hooley and chucking it down ...roll on Spring.Yesterday at the apiary was pleasant but turned colder. Spectacular this year, especially by the roundabout, hopefully the rain won't flatten them all before my bees have a chance to forage!! Also written to the council to delay mowing the verges for a few months as the crop of dandelions again is incredible, fingers crossedI've not been to Barrybados for a while, how are the verges along Port road looking for Crocuses? There used to be a splendid display.
