After many days with nothing emerging, today's sunshine and warmth has brought out all my girls. One hive with pollen from snowdrops or possibly gorse as that is in full bloom. Lost two colonies this winter - one my fault as should have united (unwell at the time) and another I cannot explain.

I've not been to Barrybados for a while, how are the verges along Port road looking for Crocuses? There used to be a splendid display.

Finally a few hours sun, and they came out to play!

Arrived at the apiary which was in full sun and the bees flying well in 12C. A little bit of pollen going in. A quick check of the fondant. and all OK. With that the sun went in the temperature dropped by four degrees and within ten minutes there was barely a bee flying. Went home happy!

Yesterday at the apiary was pleasant but turned colder. I said to someone it could be better and they said just smile it could be worse. So I smiled and it is worse - blowing a gale and raining - glorious Somerset.

Quite so. Yesterday I was exercising my right to bare arms out in the garden. Today I've been out watering the polytunnel and greenhouse and I can barely feel my fingers any more.

My youngest (mid 40s) daughter is the fittest amongst our adult family and she's thoroughly versed in practical work. We arrived back from shopping yesterday to be met with the question "have you the workshop key handy? I need a saw, drill, screwdriver and some screws". She had found a sound good condition shed door from a demolished building and wanted to replace the rickety personnel door to the stables. It had been there since the 1980s and had had a hard life. Off she went with my cordless tools then returned to get my crowbar and cordless grinder as a few nails were proving difficult. Couple of hours later we had a securely fixed, cut to size, properly mounted with 3 galvanized Tee hinges, power sanded and sprayed with fencelife wooden door. I'm redundant it seems.
