Apibioxalled 15 hives yesterday: 10 of mine, 3 belonging to a lady I occasionally help then another 2 at 6pm for someone who was working days. Nice calm warmish conditions: minimal vapour external to hives.
Cancelled today's lot as too windy..

They are the paynes polys, they all have ekes on them and have extenders - 12 frames. The roofs always have water dripping from them, I found a while ago that ekes helped. Guess the water has no where to go once it hits the roof and unlike wood can't soak in.

It will not soak in on timber hives - if they are insulated properly - as the moist air will not condensate on warm surfaces.

Never had a problem with condensation since using effective top insulation and no top ventilation. Condensation goes out the bottom of my hives - they all have OMFs.

But, there again, I don’t fiddle with my colonies from autumn until late winter/early spring.

spent the afternoon sorting out kit and attempting to find space in my storage garage...a reorganisation was on the cards until I found the roof at the back has a leak, and the daylight failed ( as did the generator pull cord handle much to my annoyance ) and I headed home
Lunch was provided by Haatchi which was very generous at the REME café.

Backache gone so today finally got round to trickling my 25 colonies with OA. 23 of them were in great shape with plenty of bees and stores. One was light on stores and will need fondant very soon. One other was weak covering just 3 seams. Found and culled three queen wasps hibernating on top of crown boards. There were also a few (I saw 4) worker wasps flying around entering hives unchallenged. I cleaned and replaced the inserts and will have a look next time to see the Varroa drop from the oxalic. I used Apivar back in August and if it is as effective as they claim then don't expect too many mites.

Further to the leaking roof - Buildbase had some Bostik roof repair compound which was painted onto all felt seams and any nailed areas on the side that's leaking. Annoyingly it looks like the local raptors are using the ridge as a perch and they are scraping the felt with odd chunks out here and there which also needed painting.

Hopefully it'll keep the worst off until I can decide what to do in the spring when it's dry.

did a bit more sorting of kit - never ending somedays !

need to build and design a new lean-too storage area too as I'm out of space

Apibioxalled 2 hives today: 1300ft above sea level in the Moorlands North of Leek...

Used the Sublimox for first time with Hivemaker's suggestion of an eke with a clear cover.
Worked really well!
only another 96 more to go.....
.....should be over by Christmas!

Much quicker with two ekes.

Checked fondant levels - all good.
Spent some time watching the bees coming and going from all three hives.
Quite a lot of cream coloured pollen going in.

Watched worker wasps going in and out of my hives unchallenged.
If only I knew where the nest was......

Sitting watching bees brining lots of pollen back and hundreds of bees going on orientation flights & wondering if my bees have got the concept of winter? but it is 12c and sunny.
