Still recovering from a broken leg ,Managed to hobble to the tractor today so that I could ride up the field.I was pleased to see that 2 of my hives were flying.Weather after a hard frost this morning has warmed up quite a bit.

Beeb says 9C here and it feels about right, maybe more in sunny sheltered bit of the garden.

Mine were out flying earlier, started coming out at about 6.5deg C and the temp got up to about 9.5..... cooling off a bit now.

6C and sunny. Checked my 4 mininucs: all alive and flying.Still lots of stores.
Fed one 4 frame jumbo nuc- it started on 1 frame of bees, got to 2 before winter and is still going.
Helped a lady beginner vape her hive.

Quick lift of the roof (5 frame nuc) peeked in through the glass covering the holes in the CB with the intention of putting in more fondant. Could see a block still there all covered in bees so no need to disturb them 😀 all looking good.

Still didn't peaked into hives, just observed from outside ( mainly for mice, woodpeckers and such..). Next weekend may take a peek and see about determing the start of feeding as start of new season.. Now temps got around zero, but still not real winter so far as I wish it will be.. All this smell on catastrophy for the next season, not just bees the rest of agriculture.. Few days ago watched small whirlwind running through our property and lifting up in the sky dry leaves.. it looked as live being.

All colonies out cleansing, collecting water and pollen whilst the sun was out.

Fondant on two, one on top bars. Everybody humming but lots of cold weather to come.
Spotted Bullfinches taking the flower buds off the lonicera bushes in the garden. We don't usually see them that near the house. More winter to come.

The name Bullfinch derived from budfinch for that simple reason and they can be a menace in orchards.

And only fairly recently taken off the vermin list and given protection.
It is thought that garden guns were developed so that bullfinches could be shot without damaging the fruit trees.
