I'm planning on doing a split on one of my hives when strong enough for a beginner friend. I want to give them the best start varroa wise as I can, how long after vapourising can supers be added? And what about timings of treatment whilst raising and mating a queen?

I would not vaporise OA if raising or mating queens... then why would you use varroa infested bees when doing this?

Probably best not to vaporise when a flow is going... also I would remove supers of honey, mainly due to fact you want as many bees in the brood boxes as possible to knock down mite .

Possibly sensible practice when you stop and think about it!

I'm not planning on queen rearing with my varroa infested bees.

Apollols... did not mean it quite like that!

I think if you used vaporised OA now to knock down the amount of varroa in the colony that you would be as successful as anyone in queen rearing by splitting the colony when big enough, and allowing the split to raise itself a nice local and locally mated queen!

Good luck
