Since drones hang around indoors until it's nice and warm at midday, do they help keep brood warm by their presence on the comb?

I think the nurse bees keep them to the outer combs?

Brood pheromone. Unless there's some new paper been done I've only seen it described as brood pheromone.

I spend time watching my bees through the clear crown boards ... they are always on the move ... how do they decide who does what and when ? Are there lazy bees and busy bees ? Is there a Bee Police that urges the slackers on ?

I'm sure I read that bees spend eight hours working eight hours asleep and eight hours wandering about, with foragers spending more time asleep. It must be in Tautz or Seeley.

It'll be like my local - the old drones go on and on about their exploits, the young drones believe it and go out to try their luck, die in the process, and the old ones take another sip of honey and say "silly young buggers".
