Not sure if it's been covered before. But I've found that using a new cafeteria works very well to clean up small amounts of wax collected over the summer.

The things to be careful of are that the water used is not to hot, 70C is fine.
  1. Same process as making coffee, rinse the cafeteria out with the water so it's at the right temperature. Then reheat the water to 70C.
  2. Fill the cafeteria half full of the wax to be melted while the water is being reheated
  3. Pour the water into the cafeteria carefully, and place the plunger on top.
  4. After a few minutes slowly press down to filter any detritus out.
  5. Leave to cool, and collect your clean wax

Ikea sell big ones for £6.

Well done, I thought about the concept but that was about it, did it remove all the dirt from the wax.

Interesting idea! I like that! I ended up filtering mine through tights wrapped around a chip frying gauze this year.

try putting wax to be cleaned into tights in a ball then place in jug in micro ,heat till liquid , lift out stocking liquid left behind in jug and crud in tights , I use toe of tights and keep topping up with wax , pour into food container let set remove scrape of any muck and repeat process , good idea if you have your own micro

Good ideas I've never tried to clean wax before must give it a go. bee-smillie

Don't use navy tights... get green wax Oops...

p.s. Wasn't me, but a divisional member

I put wax in a muslin which is in a deep tray that has hole in base. This is supported over a collection dish. All in a solar box (free poly box from fish farm with glass top on.). Get lovely clean wax. Best bit..all free.

And black tights make grey wax.

White tights work okay.

Good idea, but be really careful not to overheat beeswax in a microwave because it can catch fire very easily - there are a good few videos on youtube.

I've put a piece on the C0nwy BKA website on Preparing beeswax for sale.
It may be of interest. Please see http://tinyurl.com/qya7cxk

Thanks for the link Peterbees - nice pics and useful info. Out of interest, what uses of wax do you list on your leaflet and how much do you sell a one ounce bar for?
Thanks

Please see C0nwy BKA website http://tinyurl.com/o3bm9mh for my list of uses for small beeswax blocks. Always keen to hear of more uses. I sell one ounce blocks at £2.50 per pack of three blocks, which I think is a bit on the low side.

Having a bit of difficulty trying to give you another use for beeswax keeps telling me the password is incorrect

Some 15 years ago I asked a female work colleague if she had any old tights that were no longer wanted!! An explanation ensued....filtering out melted wax....but from that time on-wards I was known as Martin during the working week and Martine at week ends (lol)!! Needless to say I have moved on, nappy liners are in vogue!!

I use "nude" tights to remove most then im going boil water and wax together, finally let fine silt settle to bottom and remove clean set wax on top and remelt and filter again if needed
