Sorry that so many of my posts seem to relate to equipment.

I've got a rhombus bee escape recommend by virtually everybody instead of porter ones. How do you attach it to the cover board though? Do you use wood glue or pins of some sort? The cover board is fairly thin wood so pins would stick through the other side so wouldn't hold the escape very securely. If you bent the pin over the other side I would worry about splitting the wood but maybe this is what you do? I'm maybe over thinking this but it has to be secure.

Use very short screws and cut off any protruding points. Simples!

Remember to put the escape on the right way (ie the escape is under the board) and leave room for the bees you are clearing; a 50mm eke or similar.
If you look at the escape, (if it's like mine) you will see the holes for the fixings are 'keyholes' so if you get the screws just right you can slide the escape on and off, without rescrewing (?) and can then use the board for other purposes as well e.g. feeding.

Just to complicate things. Cut it in half and put a 2" hole in two corners opposite to each other. Twice as efficient.

And yes I use 6mm staples.

If they are like the rhonbus escapes I've got might they need more depth than the standard rim on a crownboard provides- I made some clearer boards with an inch rim on them and just use them as clearer boards. If you make new ones you can use thicker ply and you can then screw the escapes in place.
