2011 Beekeeping Forum Meet

Venue TBC. Date TBC. Invite - To Follow

Ok - here's the idea.....

I sent Admin a message about the idea to arrange a 'meet up' at a venue to be confirmed, at a date sometime in the summer, for a BKF meet up and general party...

The idea I have forming is to have a Friday night meet at a pub (for those who want to start early), then on Saturday, to have a relaxed start with a visit to a local apiary/producer followed by perhaps a lecture or two given by a willing volunteer(s)

Maybe use the day to distribute the year's honey jar order ?

Then an evening of entertainment, certainly a BBQ / Campfire / Beer/Cider tasting....and a slow start on the Sunday, with perhaps another Brunch lecture before we all head off home.

I was thinking a camping/caravan meet for those with the necessary equipment, else it would get stupidly expensive, for those who just want to meet up on the Sat afternoon and head off at Sunset, then that would be good too.

No idea yet of venue/lectures/demos etc but if I organise it then it'll have to be near by to my location if I can get a location with suitable pub nearby...

Perhaps a Poll to get an idea of interest is a start, along with other ideas added below ?

Yes - there is a national BBKA convention etc but the idea for this is a much more relaxed meet with the emphasis on fun, learning, sharing ideas, get to know you rather than too much on the regimented stuff...

Please add your ideas below, and tell me if I'm mad/or if there is a real desire to make this work (like on a certain US forum that does successfully!)

regards

Hi Somerford
Im with you, i did mention something like this once, but it kinda fizzled out before it got started with most wanting regional meets.

However there seem to be many more new members, and with a bit of luck this time around there will be more up for it, i think its a great idea, there are many i would like to meet.

:cheers2:

Steve,
I'm up for it for sure. Will prob sleep over in the Disco, or dig out an old tent.

Best fix a date asap.

Of course it will matter where it is?
North of the M25 and us southerners (including SE'ers & SW'ers) will need injections and passports.
:willy_nilly::p

Camping on Hedgerow Pete's allotment please.

If it gets off the ground and happens to be close to me, very happy to host apiary visit and honey room tour. As an incentive, one end of the honey room is now being set up as a 5 barrel microbrewery so we have something to do in winter.

I'm in, I'll even venture north of Exeter. Be great to put a face to names. .:cheers2:

A trip to the mainland ,is it safe :leaving: You got big roads and more than one lane to drive in. I feel travel sick already :D

How about a trip to the IOW sun , beach ,and bees lol

ok ok .....i don't think my partner will go for a bee camping trip.

Location?

PH

Your guest house! it's virtually UK central.

It's a good point it feels like a midlands-ish bash to allow all to have a roughly equal chance to get there - unless admin does some sort of geographic demographics job to determine location? R

Yes us northerners wouldn't want to catch any thing and immigration will need to no when you have outstayed you visa

Distance and ferry costs make it a no go for me I'm afraid but good luck I hope it goes ahead.

I'd love to be there but I don't know if I could face you lot having made some really dumb posts...... but yes why not!!!!!!

Actually I am England central, not UK central as for that you have to consult the Scots and Welsh hmm....

We have a business park down the road and one of the companies there says on their promo literature that it is the centre of England.

Also very close to M1, M42 and just fifty miles from the M6.

I make this suggestion with some thought behind it.

Either we bite the bullet and all travel, or we have two or even three meets to reduce the pain of travel?

Great idea for sure and good luck. I put no as I am not bothered about attending but I would not say it was total madness.

PH - yes.....but thoughts in my head are such if I organise it, then it needs to be close to my location, BUT in following years, a like-minded soul could base it near them, so it will move around the country by virtue of the organiser's location.

It is one of the reasons I am considering it starting Friday evening for the more local ones to meet and for others to arrive and have a drink in a pub, then for others to camp and arrive Sat am, with lectures etc kicking off Lunch time ish Sat...

of course this is a moveable feast !

Well, my location is just north of J17 of the M4, so it's good for those coming from Birmingham (M5), South West, Central, East (Kent/London) South/mid Wales. Ok, not so great for everyone north of Manchester (about 2.5 hours from me) Northants is 2 Hours for info.
