Should we have a BKF Summer Meet-up ?

Yes, I love the idea...BUT it would depend where it is...when it is...if I can find suitable accom - to allow for the grunts...and a possible hospital stay (will know for sure tomorrow)...and if all that works out...I'll even help...

It sounds like a very good idea Somerford.

Having expressed an interest, perhaps Poly Hive might like to think about organising a meeting for next year that is more readily accessible to members for whom Wiltshire is less than convenient.

Not during the swarming season of course.

Let's not dilute the concept. Support Somerford who originally suggested the idea and offered his time, effort and organising skills.

To do less than address the original offer as made is distracting and ultimately divisive, although I don't doubt that only the best intentions are intended.

I'm not available for further discussion . . . it's not an issue and it is I have no intention of making it one, but please stay focused, it was an offer that has been floated by Somerford, not a bandwagon for all and sundry to jump on with alternatives outwith those suggested by the originator.

Why else would we be asked to vote in a poll.

Totally mad!!! But just my cup of tea... Count me in!!!
Could the date be in the school holidays plz!!!!

Actually I am England central, not UK central as for that you have to consult the Scots and Welsh hmm....

We have a business park down the road and one of the companies there says on their promo literature that it is the centre of England.

Also very close to M1, M42 and just fifty miles from the M6.

I make this suggestion with some thought behind it.

Either we bite the bullet and all travel, or we have two or even three meets to reduce the pain of travel?

Get a life Pete. do ye ken that I'm no a blind bald wee mannie.

Sounds good Ely- and looks good too on google earth!

3hrs 11 minutes - no probs

By the power of the internet the Centre of England seems to be as near as damn it MIRA just off the A5 which would be do-able for me, much further south and I would have to consider it due to family commitments.

One suggestion would be to time it to be during the school hols and perhaps look at the possibility of caravan/motorhome parking.

Somerford,

What do you think is the number, in your estimation, of members that it would take to be:
A. Worthwhile doing.
B. Very worthwhile doing.
C. Maximum number that can realistically be expected without stretching your envisaged planning resources.

Close to you is good, can you give an of proposed area. You have said North of M4 Junction 17. Is this somewhere in a square to the South of Malmesbury and the M4 (12 miles x 12 miles)?

Have you a selected weekend or even two in mind. Bearing in mind school holidays etc. for those still encumbered?

Any economical drop-in feeding stations conveniently located or bring sandwiches for the duration?

I have seen the Roman remains. They are amazing. I was there last year, on a day trip from seeing the olds in Cromer.

Hi Hombre

Great questions. I think to be worthwhile we need min 20, very worthwhile 50. I was also thinking I might open it up to a couple of local beek groups if necessary (last resort) but if we could get 50 from here and families making it over 100, then the campsite option could be a goer...I have 2 potential locations, one in Great Somerford, the other in Frampton on Severn. Weekend no date decided upon yet, but July/august the best. Both villages have pubs in for food, but I was thinking if enough interest, and a small deposit, I could organise a bbq, campfire, site for tents and loos cheaply too. Believe me this could be an excellent weekend if enough support is forthcomng.

Regarding lecturers, I was wondering if there would be offers from any of the attendees on a pet subject, but also TBH beekeeping, perhaps somone from Omlet, etc

And of course a quiz and maybe a mini honey show competition too. Kids and families invited, with enough notice a bouncy castle could be arranged

Thoughts please everybody.

Regards

Blind honey tasting competition - Winner awarded a mini trophy and could claim his / her honey is the best of British honey according to other bee keepers.
Bring along your kit and I'm sure others will be more than happy to help put it together, I strangely enjoy putting frames together and could do it for hours...
Auction of bee keeping kit (5-10% of proceeds donated to a charity or go towards funding the event)

If it's land that you can park your caravan or tent, you can use one of my fields / meadows for free. Drinking watercan be layed on, but you would have to cover the cost of porta loos.
Plus I have some bees here and we're in the middle of the Thetford forest, so it's quite a nice location....
