You think beekeepings pompous ha haa, you wanna try learning the complexities of fish keeping. There are lots of good natured people out there but some just like to throw in some science to confuse. I associate these folk to I.T. people as they want you to keep coming back for more since it keeps them in business.
As long as you understand that though it's fine and you get by!!
complexities!!? i studied marine biology, fish ecology and ichthyology many many years ago, kept coldwater, large tropicals and now reefkeeping and i would say after a very basic understanding of the ammonia cycle, most else is common sense.
idetifying diseases helps, and understanding what makes them (fish, inverts and corals) tick...
... from what i have learnt so far (and I am still a newbie!), beekeeping is similar. there is the basic keeping of the creatures, identifying diseases is helpful, but all else is advanced and optional... same as fishkeeping!
you can make it as easy or as complex as you want it to be...
