Who's idea was it to build a whole load of nuclear power stations in an earthquake zone?

By the sea! Right by the sea! I was thinking that yesterday when it went boom. Maybe they'll move the new one inland as from reports they are coming to the end of their useful life anyway.

Good job they are right by the sea as it happens,as it's sea water that is cooling them, and trying to prevent them from over heating and exploding.

Yes, but sea water is making them totally a write off apparently. Then what do they do with them...

And ours,it uses large quantitys of filtered water from the Bristol channel to produce steam.

According to the news, they wouldn't have needed the sea water if the tsunami hadn't messed up the secondary back up systems. If it had just been the earthquake, they then have two further systems in place to keep it cool. Both were took out by the wave.

well 1957 uk melt down was worse, nice caesium tainted milk and scottish lamb was fed to quite a few babys including me and the goverment did not let on

but dont like the second reports of no3 reactor, it is a mixed spent plutonium fuel rod reactor just like the one they want to build here

should make a nice mess if that goes up, with a half life of 24,000 years

i have no idea why the UK government didn't go with the south african pebble bed design - seems to be much safer alternative.

I think the whole of Japan is in an earthquake zone.

Just where do you start to clear up and begin rebuilding after something on this scale?

Advertisement heard on the TV just a few minutes ago:

"Suzuki, Just a way of life" - it somehow doesn't seem quite as appropriate in hind sight.

well it still appears to be getting worse, every time i turn the News on there is another escalation

together with bland statements on BBC that a tsumani could not happen here, well it did in 1607 when the fault line off Ireland went and flooded most of Somerset with a tsunami, but then our nuclear power stations are better aren't they

all the pundits seem to be ignoring that the second bigger bang was one using a modern hotter plutonium mix in a reactor designed for an older fuel

i wonder what they use in blankney point Reactors I bet it is a plutonium mix and of course never been a Tsumani there since 1607 so no need to protect it from flooding :banghead:

have they decommission Hinckley point yet

No EDF have bought land surrounding Hinkley point and are submitting planning for a third reactor.....

Oh well thats it, the green tree huggers have all the amo they now need.

Better get stocked up with fuel, candles and wood etc etc as the light will be going of in the UK soon.

But wait! We have quite a bit of coal under our feet...silly me we can not use that either!

Some people are so stupid!
