Got a bit of a shock when I saw this Ivy in flower near my apiary. Fortunately none of my bees seem to be interested at the moment, but this does seem early to me.

I like the crystal size (for making set honey) but the taste is too strong. Which is why I was so concerned to see it out so early, as I've still got a few supers to take off.

This is not the common hedgerow Ivy that gives us a late flow, that won't be out for at least another month.

Noticed some Ivy just now, in a hedge (think its the ordinary stuff) … and some of the buds had opened.

Its wonderful, gives them LOTS of winter stores.
Just not yet …

I saw some this week while holidaying in Criccieth, Gwynedd. Not quite out yet, but not far off.

Everything seems to be earlier there due to the sea breeze, although I dropped geography so may be wrong :)

Checked my local ivy today and saw nothing anywhere near ready for bees thankfully. Still have my supers on with bees hitting the balsam hard.
