Why are US beekeepers so keen on these and European beekeepers not? They say they help with mites a mostly are made with vegetable shortening, sugar and essential oils.

administering antibiotics which are controlled in the uk

Also thymol and wintergreen oil patties seem popular to treat for mites. Is there a version of grease pattie treatment for small hive beetle too?
Just wondered why they would go for that delivery mechanism.

It seems that one of the SHB traps uses small lengths of Correx, with the ends sealed by dipping in shortening (cooking fat) and borax within the flutes.

The reasoning being that the SHB are attracted by the fat which they like to eat, hide in the flutes and nibble the borax. The bees hopefully keep them corralled making them keener to find refuge in the tubes with the borax.

Wintergreen oil is toxic - you do not want that in your honey.
