It's a hellebore

It should grow quite large over the years and bees love them

thanks I shall leave it then, and tell the wife its a flower not a weed, as she removes anything that shows its head and was not planted there.
 
Many hellebores need viewing from underneath to appreciate the flower. When in full bloom in the spring you can cut off most of the foliage to get the full benefit from the flowers. If you have more than one type in the garden they will regularly seed different flowers from the parents.

Must be nice to have a wife who weeds at all. Mine hasn't a clue and doesn't weed at all, even after 52 years of marriage to me as her tutor!!!!! Don't knock it mate.
