Do you not think you can tell anything by the sound Finman?

I also listen to the bees... they are women and have a lot to tell ..

I also listen to the radio during football season. They don't seem to be too bothered about the radio... being a man I can listen to two things at once! :)

The hovercraft like hum in the evening is about the best sound you will ever hear

:iagree: You can learn a lot by the sound of the colony. I think it is the phobic in me that makes me really sensitive to changes ithe pitch of the hum.

Totally agree Kaz By listening to the bees and changes to there hum you get an understanding of there temperament, well I do anyway.
So going back to the OP no I won't be playing music

I have a Bluetooth speaker, I have been wanting to see how the bees would respond to music. So I took it out today and turned on some Tom Petty. They flew pretty heavy around the speaker, but only one bee landed on it. What's your thoughts or experiences with this?

Try wearing a pair of Y front and a pair of pink wellies while blasting rave music the next time you open your hive, will you video the dance moves for me please.

I'm surprised no one has said they'll play them Queen :D

I'm sorry lol

I wouldn't know, I have an appreciation for classical music. However I am not a huge fan of classical. I am a lyric person, and always have been.

Lyrics and karaoke with bees. That is a new aspect in beekeeping....

Crazy. Don't come around here no more.

kazmcc - what difference in sound do you notice when getting to the frame the queen is on?

Its only subtle, and I can't hear it all of the time, mostly when the hive is heaving in summer, but the pitch gets a little higher when you pull the frame before hers and expose them. I've always been a bit sensitive to any changes in their buzz, coming from being so scared of bees when I started.

Last thing I want to do is is listen to music while working the bees, the sound of the bees is part of the enjoyment. Love status quo, not sure the bees would be happy :icon_204-2:
