Toby,
Welcome...and what a welcome...and what an entrance...:)

On your website you mention WBCs but don't go into any detail. Could you please tell me more about what constitutes your wbc hive so I can compare your offering with my usual supplier.

Actually could you do this for the national too please. Your site lists 2 prices for a National but doesn't explain the difference ...

Do you offer accessories - frames, etc?

All the best,
Sam

I am all for sharing information and getting a good deal and please correct me if I am wrong, I didn’t think this forum accepted advertising?

A very well known and colourful seller of Nucs and bees (Mike ‘ T Bee) was banned from this site for blatant advertising .

Maybe this guy has found a way of circumventing this rule by being polite and just accepting the flack??

Cheers

Libel - in law, I understand that an absolute defence against a charge of libel is that the statement that was made was truthful.

Yep. Somebody recently called me a liar on ebay feedback, but as I wasnt and therefore they couldnt prove what they said, ebay had to remove it.

QUOTE " I think what may of caused the problem in the first place is that most members join the forum for beekeeping advice.

Every now and then we get someone who joins the forum and makes a first (and often only thread they take part in)post saying "I want to buy" or "I have for sale".

Often a few posts offering support to members goes a long way towards trust being built up.

We are a beekeeping forum for Beekeepers paid for by donations from its members, not a free shop window for buying/selling.

That was ref. a recent thread where someone wanted to BUY our products.

You've done well to get this far.

Best to contact him @ his address then he will not get his legs slapped again:)

Yes good idea...perhaps Toby can also update his site and those that are interested can view for themselves,
Sam

Are your address details on the site?

I have my eye on a couple of users who seem to be flying under the radar, they both have usernames that corispond to their website.

Should this be stopped ?
Do we need to change the rules by saying a members username must not be an advert ?

i think so.

although what about people actually called HIVES?

"We are a family run company producing traditional beehives in accordance with the british standards association"

Can anyone tell me what the british standards association is please, I know of the British Standards Institution, BSI, but not the BSA. Apart from motor cycles that is.

Ian

Thank you for the feedback.

So the site now says:
"We are a family run company producing traditional beehives in accordance with the british standards institution."

Can you tell me what that means please? People will interpret it as meaning that the hive are manufactured to British Standards, what are those standards? numbers and dates please.

Yes I am being picky, but if claims are made then they must be supported or you could be in trouble.

Ian

My reply was not a 'dig' at you as I think you do a great and difficult job.
However it does look as if Mr Beehives is getting a lot of free publicity for himself and his elusive products.

I think the good nature and helpfullness of this forum is actually working in his favour as most of the replies are trying to help him sort out his security problems with his website.

If your username was an advert I would be in real trouble as I doubt I could live up to mine !! :ack2:

Admin,

Should this be stopped ?

I think that may well be the case. Unfortunately the few that try to undermine the spirit of the forum rules, by blatantly advertising, should go the same way as the previous miscreants.

There are some on the forum who try to keep their business operations separate from the assistance they provide to forum users; these members are being disadvantaged by those that overtly advertise.

An alternative might be a pay, but without any endorsement by the forum, and have a separate section for those. The problem then arises when unscrupulous advertisers pay up but advertise items/services which are not to the advantage of the beekeeper (pesticides immediately comes to mind!). So I would vote against that alternative too!

Recently had to change our website as it had caused some mirth amongst mucky minded family and friends!

It used to say 'we are a small cottage industry’!

Now it took me ages to see what was wrong with that ???

but....why try to advertise on here...cheaper than fleabay? says a lot for the ethos of the company!
an unimpressed
TBRNoTB:toetap05:

I have seen their adverts on fleabuy. Just makes sense to cover as much of the market as possilble, especially specialist sites.

I've now wasted my time reading this on-going battle of opinions, if it's the case of free advertising on this site and not beekeeping help, then DOES ANYONE WANT TO BUY SOME SCUBA DIVING T-SHIRTS.
Keep this site as a help to beekeepers and NOT a battle of words. Going to see if there is any advice that will be useful to me now...
Steven
