extract in the middle of the yard, hot days
JBM's reply was too polite! Open extraction will invite robbing and will increase the chance of disease spread from distant colonies. I have seen photos of rural apiary extraction in Turkey and that part of the world, but they work inside a meshed gazebo and may be miles from other apiaries.

In my defense............ there is no foulbrood in the area- at all. Sacbrood/ chaulkbrood probably is everywhere- but bees control it themselves . rarely ever evident. Varroa is widespread- everywhere. I did mention using a bee repellent ( bee- gone) in the supers, keeping them covered as much as possible, and mothballs. The worst robbing of all is that which happens at the time of the death of a colony. Right there is the widespread transmission of disease. That is what I truly fear. That is what none of us can control.

But i do like the idea of a meshed gazebo!

These pieces of retired display flooring that occasionally appear in B&Q's offcut bin are great to protect the floor when you're extracting. A bit of Mr Muscle window cleaner removes honey and propolis from the engineered surface easily. I've been using them for years.

That's not display flooring; the bales of flooring come with those sheets protecting them and any place that sells timber flooring will have a regular supply of those sheets. I use them all the time .
