I got fed up with that system and reset all my apiaries to zero colonies. It's just too much of an effort to maintain the data.......AND, I no longer trust them.

I've heard many UK beeks speak of distrust for BBKA/BeeBase, but I've no idea why. The EU will probably have a mandatory apiary registration in a couple of years, so we'll have to do it too then (obviously that won't apply to the UK after Brexit). So perhaps someone can explain (without emotion) why there's such antipathy to this census, please - I'd really appreciate understanding why.

Childish I call it.

My figures are right once a year - I update everything after all the apiaries are settled for winter, just in time for their survey.
No big deal, it also helps with the figures for the annual funding tranche.

Why don’t you?

This is probably not the place.

All I will say is that, trust is hard won and easily lost. If an agency that purports to be independent/unbiased promotes a particular stance, it can no longer be considered neutral.
I am not the only one. Others have told me that they don't report apiaries/ don't update beebase.

Don't they need these numbers to claim money from the EU?

Can’t you say what it is that you find so troubling?

The only stance I know of is their concern for the betterment of bees and beekeepers.

It's all a conspiracy run by the Illuminati and the world's governments to keep track of beekeepers so that when honey becomes a controlled drug they'll know where all the supplies come from and can arrest us on mass -- or make us 'disappear'. Or so some on this forum would have us believe.

Beebase and therefore The National Bee Unit do a very good job to help to try and keep us safe from disease and they can't do this without funding and they get funding from, amongst other things, accurate statistics supplied by beekeepers. Their work is as important as the control of other livestock -- sheep, cows etc. -- to ensure our foodstuffs are safe to consume. The NBU run a network of Bee Inspectors who do an admirable job in a friendly and efficient manner. They monitor Asian Hornet incursions, check for American and European Foulbrood and are a mine of information should they come along to inspect your hives.

I have updated my beehive records and will continue to do so in the face of fatuous comments as to their untrustworthiness -- there is no valid reason not to.

Thank you, Hivemaker. I now remember reading a few posts in that threat but gave up thinking it’s just black-bee-bashers working themselves up into a froth about nothing - despite DanBee’s efforts to put fears to rest.

Your Buckbees and whatever are safe. No take-over on the horizon. Filling out this hive count, I think, might help all of us.

PS: Sorry - 'black-bee-bashers' was probably the wrong word (as 'Bible-bashers' are people are people who loudly want everybody to read the Bible!). What I meant was people seeing any interest in AMM as a threat.

Oh Dear! I was hoping to avoid this.
The issue is: when an organisation that is supposed to represent us all comes out and expresses a view (one way or another), they can no longer claim to be impartial.

B+, a questionnaire is not 'expressing a view' - and even if they did, why jeopardising BeeBase's work on behalf of all of us?

Don't get this wrong. I may be the only person who is talking openly about this but I'm far from the only person who has chosen not to disclose information.
If you think the questionnaire was impartial, I suggest that you read it again.

Ammo for the TROLLS !!!!

Most beekeepers have just 2 colonies and most it would seem from my recent problems with non Beebase registered bee colonies do not wish to be counted... let alone inspected!

ANOTHER reason for COMPULSORY REGISTRATION... whats to fear?

I complete the Beebase return annually
