We bought some of the Aldi fruit trees, but the ground is so wet we are afraid to plant them!

Tell me.....we dug up an old broken cherry and were ready to enlarge and enrich the planting hole. By the time I had returned with my packet of root grow and a new tree the hole had filled up with water......and that's on a hillside

These guys in Wales seem good - however, I've only ever bought grafting tape from them: http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/treegraftingsupplies

Thanks for that... what are the advantages of M27 rootstocks, will the tree have more blossom sooner than say the bigger MM106?

I know apples only provide nectar for a few weeks. even days, but we would like something in the "orchard" that will do well for the bees, WHEN we get them!!!

What variety are you looking for?
Mary Martin has written an excellent book on Westcountry variety apples and a trip to Cothele National Trust orchard when they run a grafting day is well worth the money.
Perhaps a bit far to travel from Yorkshire?
I grafted a "Quench" onto MM106 stock #23
linoleum bonypart

If anybody's interested in making a start on grafting apple trees there's a workshop next weekend at Cotehele, near Callington in east Cornwall. Here's the link https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/events/73e1bcdb-0cb2-420e-ad0f-5df9746cf42f/pages/details

Just down the road from Eden Project where the BEEFOUR (B4?) BIBBA scientific meeting is being held and on the same weekend.

Wife and daughters said they would like to graft some more apple trees for the new orchard as leaving this one behind when we up sticks and move to Cornwall!

Have met Mary Martin and the other gardeners at Cotehele many times over the years, my wife's uncle worked at Cotehele all his life and was the head gardener there until he died, her aunt still lives in Bohetherick in a Trust cottage.

Its possible to order scions from the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale but think they had a deadline of 31st Jan for orders.
Quality was excellent last year.
At Cotehele its possible to buy rootstocks and scions from Devon and Cornwall varieties on the grafting course day.....
They have lots of rare local apples...
