Wonderful to watch the pollen piling in today, this Amm nuc enjoying the Willow, with Gorse and Hellebore also on the menu. Winter has been a non stop rain fest ( Summer wasn't much better ) and things are set to deteriorate again but all the colonies here are busy and vibrant. The other apiaries are in a similar position, all colonies flying and doing their thing.
Please send rain :D

There is an out of control bushfire here somewhere near the black bee reserve near Tarraleah. I'm trying to get more details but they've got about 20 aircraft and over 20 crews onto it at the moment ... conditions are bad. Hopefully everyone will be ok and lives and property won't be lost. Hot, not much humidity and gusty winds.

That's awful. I hope they get it under control quickly.

Calor, poca humedad y vientos racheados.
Rule 30-30-30.

Yeah!
I was thinking about that (and you) today as the temp was 35, humidity 30 and the wind gusts, well depending where you were, were up around 50-100k.
As you have elections planned soon, you should send a letter to the electoral district candidates to implement a progressive level of alerts based on the 30-30-30 rule.
If one of the parameters is met, a yellow situation will be activated, for which 50% of the emergency, fire and security means must be aware of the risk.
If 2 parameters are met, 75% of the available media are activated and 25% will be in an active situation. Code Orange
If all 3 are met, 100% will be available and 50% will be active. In addition, 5% of the militia will be available for eventual support to the civil forces. Code Red

We have this system of warning levels. I reckon they get to them based on your criteria.

These fires are described as "hell on earth" in the article. Today, the smoke clouds from a fire in Victoria were 10km high. The article describes how temperatures of 1600 degrees c can be reached as the gases from the gum, thermally released, mix with oxygen and combust.

In Galicia they have been called superfires or sixth generation fires.
They also happen in California.
In Galicia in 2019 a film "O que arde" was made, I have verified that there is a trailer for it "Fire Will Come".

After a brief look into some mating nucs last week for signs of laying and finding eggs and three beautiful new queens, today they confirmed their success with nice patterns of sealed worker brood. Still undecided whether to leave it at that for this year, the last green year was an epic queen rearing year, producing some of our nicest queens.
Honey wise there is not a lot going on, I don't think we have a colony with a fully capped super yet but nice to see bramble finally flowering and grey pollen coming in today.

Better mating this year for me so far Steve, black drones are huge this season to, as to honey 🤷‍♂️ good job I left the majority of the spring crop, I’ve had three supers from 18 colony’s.
I still haven’t had to feed yet only the mating colony’s.

Thought I'd share some pics of brood from last year's queens i reared . Edit pics aren't loading il try again tomorrow
