hopefully they should be busy at the weekend . forecast says 16 degrees + saturday 18 + on sunday.

thank you nige - pity the hive alive is taking so long to get here. ordered the day you was here and it only just got shipped today

Mega activity

I cold SO cold this morning on a bike ride, came back to see what the bees were doing (not expecting much action) and there they were - probably the most activity I have yet seen from both colonies. It had warmed up - the temperature was 12C and humidity was 75%. There was a LOT of pollen - mostly yellow - coming in, I used it as an opportunity to add a super on each, with a QE. I have noticed that the outer brood frames are starting to be drawn out, so will keep an eye. It is now hailing outside with a little thunder too!

It's bitterly cold with wind and spells of rain here today. There are still a few brave souls venturing out from all hives and bringing a bit of pollen in. I can see a little bit of brace comb in the fondant ekespace under one hive clear crownboard but I'm not inflicting my attention on it until a warmer day.

May I ask when you put on your eke with the fondant. I put mine on about a month ago and they had added so much comb, some filled with honey too. And lots of bees also. I removed it all the other day - it was messy, very messy. I guess bees will always fill up a space that is larger than a bee-space, so I shouldn't be surprised. Not sure if I will do the same thing next year. I did add a super and an QE today though as they looked crowded. Good luck! This weekend looks warmer.

The fondant went on just after Christmas when I trickled OA. The comb started to appear about a week ago and is presently about the size of my palm. It appears to be only stores when viewed from above through the clear sheet.
If the promised warmth arrives at the weekend it will be removed along with the fondant and the clear crownboard flipped so the beespace side is downwards.

i just thought it might help others if they see what happens in my bee hive and when so please check in every day please?

Well' I'm expecting full on manic action here. Yesterday, at a scant 10c at 10.00a.m. my hives were incredibly busy. I have never seen anything quite like it at such a low temperature.
