I was wondering about honeydew as the bees are filling the comb in next to no time and in conversation at our hive meeting the talk was all about really thick honey barely able to run down the sides of the extractor. Not sure whether hawthorn is like this but honeydew seems a possibility. The gate into the field is really sticky below the trees so maybe it is that ........................ Maybe have to warm it a bit or cut it out with a warm up and filter.

I have never known honeydew like it. It is covering our patio slabs from the cherry tree above it. In the evening it is alive with bumblebees my bees are all over the hornbeam and field maple which are so sticky to touch. I am sure the first rain will wash it all off but until that arrives it seems to be free food for all! Yuc!

Was transporting buckets from the extraction room to home on Friday and one of the buckets fell over in the back of the van causing the lid to come off. I found it about an hour later by which time I had an inch deep puddle of honey below the front seats! 😱
Cleaned it up best as we could but it was still seeping through the bulkhead this morning.

Struggled to unlock the kitchen door in the farmyard and thought a fly-by-night had tried to force it.

Turned out to be clogged with the nest of a mason bee; material was like a mix of propolis and mud.

Must be the season for it: saw another last week in a kitchen wall.

OMG.... that is your worst nightmare ! I once had a 4 pint bottle of milk flood the rear footwell of a previous car ... that was bad enough.. an inch of honey I cannot begin to imagine!

Do bees feed on the sticky coating on the leaves, or do they 'milk' aphids like ants do?

The swearing increased in direct proportion to the increasing stickiness.
Choosing the hottest and most humid day so far to have all doors and windows shut was a masterstroke.
Swmbo wisely went shopping.
I've got to repeat all this in August as well.
