I’ve obtained a fridge carcass no compressor nor freezer parts ,it’s completely empty, so I intend converting it into a cabinet heater ,it isn’t very big but will accommodate a 30 Lb honey bucket .
i‘m thinking of using a black heater bulb in conjunction with a control stat ,maybe include a circulating. Fan.

Meant to be nice wood.
It is really easy to work but does clog power tools because of resin. It’s heavier than cedar but still easy to work by hand.
Sadly due to phytophera fungus we won’t see many of these lovely trees about in the SW but there should be a good supply of timber.

Servicing these boxes and making these frames ready for grafting the bar rotates so it makes it easier to graft into. View attachment 30877View attachment 30876
All personal preference I know but I can't abide those fixed bars. Much prefer a loose bar which can be held in one hand and moved along while grafting, the thumb of the holding hand always next to the cell ready to receive the larvae. But of course, I'm grafting into wax mounted on the bar so not really something you need to consider.

Another preference is for not using Hoffman sidebars on grafting frames so as to allow the flanking combs to be crowded in.

Glued and screwed the latest boxes and finished painting the nucs so the hardware is ready to go. Just got the bee suits out to renew the elastics in the cuffs, been meaning to sort them for a while.
I'm pretty much ready also one of my suites got some attention from my good lady, I ripped one of the seams down the leg on Briars last season there was already a burnt hole in the leg from balancing my smoker while trying to do something which had made the suite weak then the brair insedent.

Finished cutting down the top bars on a load of Dadant Super frames to fit some Mini Plus hives, failed to purchase reasonably prices Mini Plus frames. A few hours on a table saw cutting all the rebates on the one side.

Found this and plan to give it a go. Going to cut it down to 5’ not 10’. Think I will put tenon joints on the uprights just because I like doing them. Might do them in the rails as well rather than half lap joints. It’s more about the doing it than any better 😂😂😂

My better half wants a hive at the bottom of the garden so I decided to ditch my usually practical approach to hive parts and make one look pretty for her. IMG-20220321-WA0006.jpg
Have converted an old screen floor to a tunnel entrance as well so no mucking about with mouse guards later.

I've yet to build a deep crown board for it which we use on all our hives now will probably get that done after work tonight.

Nice do you make all your kit or buy your brood boxes? (y) 🐝

Hi. I buy boxes although I'd like to start making them as well.

I make my floors crown boards and roofs for my apiaries.
This one was all got from thornes though.

Putting together all the supers, frames and roof for a spare hive I enthusiastically bought last weekend when I thought all was well with both my colonies. Ah well, don't count your chickens etc...

don't worry - you'll need them soon enough

I'm now apiary manager at one of my local BKA's and was told to get some new hive stands from Thornes. IMO they are crap so I said I get some timber and make some. Went down to the saw mill to get some "seconds".
Picked up a length of cedar 65x180x3200 plus 2 lengths of 20x200x3800. Cost a tenner and should make 4-5 stands 😊.

Weather changing and rain forecast as well as sleet, so collected up pine needles and dried out in greenhouse. Did same a few days ago with woodchip. Mum gave me her dried lavender heads and a friend has given me 3 hessian sacks, I need to cut up. So getting ahead with smoker fuel for the season
