Carried on sterilising the poly stuff I have. The poly nuc was a bit of a disaster. I worked on the principle that if the NBU say 20 minutes submersion in a 0.3 hypochlorite solution is adequate 72hours would be better.
I'm sure that the immersion has worked a treat at sorting out any potential disease problem and I have now found a new way of removing gloss paint from polynucs!

I put the press boards from my apple press in the dishwasher, but I think my wife might draw the line at hive boxes.

I almost fell off my chair when I saw the price of cork and when you look at the comments on the video quite a few say that it's not very good exposed. PIR is more easily obtained and cheaper . I think Lawrence's reason for using cork was to make a non plastic insulated hive.
The use of 14x12 still allows me to use single boxes.

Cork comes in interior and exterior grades. Try Mike Wye for exterior grade, they do a lot of lime based products.

Helped my friend with a sawmill to mill me some lumber from trees the power company cut. 1"x10.5"x10-12' and 1"x 7.5"x10-12'. Sure some of it will need to be trimmed up and milled to final dimensions but its a nice pile of lumber. Gonna get another couplelogs milled into 10" for nucs/hivebodies. Best part is it didnt cost me anything . He is getting the other trees that were taken down for his use.

Made up first batch of strong thymolated syrup, started making plans for some new nuc boxes with odds and sods in the woodpile.

Can feel spring on the way, getting excited.
