Goran posted some pics on how he make his fondant last year, he uses a machine that turns granulated sugar into powder then he adds water and mixes the stuff, then rolls it into thin layers and places it on top of frames, he makes in industrial quantities as I think it is all run buy a club or some thing similar.

Went to check fondant on two hives. One was half gone, other still plenty there. Bees flying from both hives. They looked like they were carrying in something, but the sun, (I was so surprised to see that), was in my eyes.

Took the dog on St. Annes beach, lovely sea breeze.

I have complained here for months now about the weather, but I must say today has been glorious, the bees have been popping their heads out and having a little fly around, its still cold but what a receive the rain has stayed away today.

I have complained about the weather but no-one does anything.. It's still winter...

If I were making fondant icing...for cakes...then I would mix icing sugar, glucose and a little water.....but I still have some sugar so will have to use that up for liquid feed ...it needed in the spring.
Mixing icing sugar...is messy as it clouds up in your face...have to have the mixer on its slowest setting until it starts to combine.
I haven't investigated the cost of using icing sugar for fondant...but I expect Baco will still be the best deal....and less hassle.

icing sugar shouldn't be used there are additives in it (anti caking). granulated or caster only. also less than half the price of icing sugar to.

Do you know if Baco uses icing sugar to make its fondant icing?

If you run out icing sugar and want to make your own...without the cornstarch which is usually added. Put a cup of granulated sugar in a liquidiser and whizz for about 15 seconds...shake the sugar down and whizz again until it turns to a fine powder. Useful in an emergency. If you want to store it add a tablespoon of cornstarch or it will go lumpy.
Still easier to buy Baco...than mess about like this.

The bees where out flying today so I took the cosy of to check the food level on the crown board, they had roughly 1/2 lb left so I stuck another 1kg bag of candipollen in there for them just to be on the safe side through the weight going up and down the way it is.

Checked one of our 'Poly Nucs' the one that the roof blew off and the bees got a soaking, lots of condensation under the plastic cover, I removed the cover and gave it a good wipe, the cluster was halfway down the comb, but they soon came to see what was going on. All is well we hope.

If you only wiped the plastic, it does not help. You must get a thick insulation as a cover. The nuc wall is 4 cm, and the cover insulation should be better.

Candipollen is very expencive stuff, and hardly even has pollen (3%)
