Hurray! Had a quick look at the long hive today: about 3 weeks since queen cell hatched and I was starting to wonder if she'd got lost out there. But no! Lots of very young brood and eggs on both sides of 4 frames, all nicely positioned in generous blocks of cells. Bees were very calm, hardly noticing me despite the rather windy weather.
Just one more virgin queen left now. Will she return? Ooh, the suspense! Their Mum is a bought, locally-bred queen from last year, and very good, so I'll be interested to see what her daughters turn out like.
