Peeked under the roof just now to see my girls happily chomping their fondant. All seems well - so far!

I spent a little time in my apiary planny where to put my hives and what to plant etc, maybe build a path with some left over slabs I have. I'm going to have to plant a hedge or something because the hives would be quite exposed to wind that comes straight over the marshes. Any reccommendations on what type of hedge would be great.

I also want to plant espalier apples along one boundary, is it best to buy pre trained or train your own?

Pre-trained are usually not very well formed. Best to do your own, but bear in mind they take several years to form- have you considered cordons?

I'm not really sure what cordons are. I'm pretty much an all round beginner gardner and beekeeper

assembled a hive stand and super frames joy

I did serve my wife of 50 years(yesterday) tea and toast in bed this morning, don't ask how as I must have consumed a bottle of brandy at our DO! last evening;).
Lots of family lots of friends and thankfully no feuding .

All I can think of was getting gloriously drunk .
I recall when giving the mandatory speech; one of my ex RAF buddies asking the question " How on earth did you manage to pull such a stunning looker?"
My reply was " I have thought about this and I can only conclude that she must have used underhand tactics to see off the opposition "

Congratulations John.

Congratulations John to you and the missus

Too wet today for the girls to bother, so I've applied myself to making 3 divider boards. Sort of went according to plan, but Hivemaker, Tom Bick et al, you are quite safe.

Congratulations to you and your wife John.

Went and check ever thing was secure 2" of snow here today Regards Andrew

Congrats John - I was chuffed to get to 25 but 50 is special - well done to you both!!

Just had a quick peep as it was 16 deg...just! The smell of honey was amazing - and many orange legged girlies around looking pleased with themselves...and still a super of untouched stores...whooppee!

Warmest congrats to you and your beloved John, and many more happy years to come.
